Today we live in a world full of technological wonders. Color television, supersonic jets and personal computers are common things. We enjoy a high level of living that our ancestors never even dreamed of.
However, hand in hand with this affluence is a scourge that is also unparalleled in history. Drugs have become a menace and a destroyer of lives in this modern world.

Victim of Drug Addiction
Many people in this country and other countries are victim of drug addiction. For whatever reasons, they have allowed their lives to be ruled by drugs. Maybe it is because they first tried taking drugs out of curiosity and then got sucked unwittingly into the trap or maybe it is just a means to escape from their unhappy lives. The easy availability of drugs, though illegal, contributes significantly to the rise of rug addiction.
Drug addicts are a liability to society. They are unproductive and burdensome. In order to support their drug habit, they may resort to any means. Begging, stealing and involving in criminal activities are common among them. They just do not care what they do or who gets hurt, as long as they get their next `fix’. They have lost all their integrity and responsibility. For them life is merely a series of escapes into the dream – world induced by drugs. Reality is too harsh for them.

Interesting piece. I haven’t made my mind up on the legality issue yet. The US has the highest per capita incarceration for non=-violent crimes, pot smoking being at the top of the list. I think it is time to re-visit our laws. Education, from an early age, is key. It makes sense to me that anyone buying or consuming alcohol or marijuana would have to take a test and their driver’s license would relfect if they can buy. I could go on, but hey, I might as well make an article!!

Destroying poppy fields would kill people because farmers grow those poppies and depend on them for there living.Also to be honest I find you’re whole argument simplistic and not very helpful.

A very well done atricle that is very informative.They are a menance to socety and families,including mine.If they spend some of our tax dollars on fighting drugs and the dealers instead of bailing out the auto industry or the war,we would have a better grip on the situation.

Some good points…it’s so sad that this is such a big deal..You would think poeple would realize this stuff. You shoud be an advocate for anti drug campaigns..or at least submit something similar to one. THanks for the pictures too…very nice.

Drugs will never cease to exist in this country. Street drugs have actually gone down in “popularity” these days because of the pharmaceutical companies and their influence on american ideaology of “pop a pill for every ailment”. Meanwhile , those very same people who once objected to methadone clinics residing in their communities are now the afflicted and addicted to prescription drugs. Absolutely noone is exempt from drug addiction and many once strong willed people have unfortunately sooner or later wound up in drug induced lives. The american government will never win this war on the drug trade because THEY ARE THE DRUG TRADE. All the while , in the midst of our vast opinionated society , the prescription junkie still continues to point the finger of blame at the street junkie for all of society’s problems and vice verse. good write Mr. Ghaz….

A mentally healthy mentally balanced society will mean that people don’t seek out the escapist and mind numbing effects of drugs. Social drugs such as rampant consumerism and the fears pumped at us 24/7 by Big Media have a long term surpetitious impact on the mind of society. When reality kicks in because brand promises aren’t met then people choose drugs.
