India shining and farmers dying: 72 farmers died in last 2 months, the government and chief ministers are involved in big scams,, nobody has the time to see cotton farmers in “vidarbha”, like every year.

Maharashtra congress government and state farmers have seen so much turbulence in the last two months, government ministers, from chief minister, deputy chief minister of Maharashtra to big bureaucrats and defense personals all are involved in the high profile land and Mumbai-adarsh society scam, while the farmers were dying. The chief minister and deputy chief minister changed, but still nobody is looking at them, cotton farmers in vidarbha are facing life threatening problems, since January this year total 663 farmers have committed suicide in the region. Last year (2009) it was 916,

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had declared Rs 3750-crore relief package for farmers in 2006, and head of the National Farmer’s Commission, Dr M S Swaminathan, had opened an agriculture centre to help farmers learn new technology and sustainable farming. So where’s the money and help for farmers through new technology going. , all these money and support could be seen in government files, but not actually on the farms.

The government should pay attention here, where farmers are committing suicide due to political and bureaucratic negligence, agricultural ministers sharad pawar is busy playing cricket, rotting wheat and other crops due to monsoon. When this all is going to change, this is the reason why naxals are spreading fast all over the country. Rahul Gandhi should come and live with cotton farmers in vidarbha for at least 2 months to really understand their pain and to do something really good instead of sleeping a night at a dalits house; it’s a dalit’s thinking.

Over 14000 farmers in different states of India have committed suicide between 2001 and 2006. Death is haunting the farmers of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra are competing with each other to stake the highest claim to Farmer’s suicides in India.
