Earth’s Environment

A short article on the Earth’s environment.

Throughout history, many things have been done to help try to save the Earth’s environment.  In the mid-to late 1800s, people such as Henry David Thoreau and Harriet Hemenway made efforts to preserve our environment.  Thoreau recommended living in harmony with nature in his book Walden, and Hemenway petitioned for legislation to prevent the extinction of birds and refused to wear plumed hats.  In 1900 the Lacey Act made it illegal to transport illegally killed animals across state borders.  In the mid 1900s President Roosevelt created the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) to help the environment.  In the late 1900s, acts such as the Endangered Species Preservation and the National Marine Sanctuaries Acts were instated.  All of these efforts are just some examples of how we have tried to prevent further damage to the environment.
