Enough is Enough
Harmful coverage….
Whatever information the government collected during that raid on Bin Laden’s compound should be kept within the most inner reaches of the government and only those who can act upon it should know about it. We DO NOT need to know every detail about what they found. We DO NOT need to live in even more fear than we already do and it IS NOT Jane Velez-Mitchell’s job to tell the American people what she herself has not confirmed and what may cause more harm than good to the American people.
We need to remain vigilant and I pray that our government is doing their job and watching out for us. I hope that any future terroist plots can be stopped and that we never again experience what we experienced on 911. I also hope that I do not have to ponder where and when the next possible attack could be and have it ruin my already interrupted life.
The world is not the place I grew up in and from the perspective of someone who lived during the cold war era I can only wonder how this damaging, tabloid-like coverage can make anyone feel more assured that we are safe. I do not want to see my grandchildren staying awake at night wondering if there will be a tomorrow or if they will have a future. I know what that feels like because I felt that way as a child. The news coverage was extremely limited back then and yet we still were afraid. I can only imagine what the children of today’s world feel listening to a 24 hour news cycle of garbage and half true stories shouted to them by so-called reporters of limited knowledge and even more limited talent.
Let’s move on and hope for the best. Let’s trust that those in charge have things under control to the best of their ability and believe that they are prepared to protect us based on REAL information that they know is factual and not used as bait for higher ratings.
The media has begun to influence our justice system, our military, our political system and our personal lives and it has abused it’s First Amendment rights. It has gone way beyond what the Constitution allows and what is now being called journalism is in fact “Gonzo Journalism”. There is no story or news until the news reporters arrive. We are not being given accurate information, therefore, we are not being informed. Being only partially informed or misinformed is dangerous to all of us and the media’s tactics need to be reviewed and re-evaluated before they do more harm.
Usama Bin Laden is dead and so apparently is the integrity of the media reporting on his demise and other important news. Both situations need to be studied carefully so that we can truly move forward and live a life not filled with fear.
