Et Tu Senator Jim Bunning?
Since the swearing in of the first African American President in US history, behavior of the Washington elite is getting quite ugly.
Never in my 58 + years here on earth have I seen such horrid lack of political etiquette,, arrogant and loutish, behavior from supposedly educated persons as I have since President Obama took office in 2009. I expect such from we the people, but our representatives show that they lack the basics of common courtesy or manners. They should mirror those they represent . . . Lord I hope not.
The latest brouhaha is with Kentucky, Senator Jim Bunning. A multi-millionaire, who has probably never went a day without a paycheck, from the baseball mound, baseball hall of fame, to the hallowed halls of the senate. A man who supposedly represents the citizens of Kentucky, seems to have forgotten to check his ego at the door.
Elected in 1998 to the U. S. Senate he has been a thorn to the citizenry that he represents a state with 10.4% unemployment rate. His recent cold calculating decision to be the dam in the flow of money to the unemployed is beyond bizarre.
This man who took an oath to adhere to the wishes of the citizens of Kentucky went into mild hysterics when questioned about his decision to block the extension of unemployment. It seems after being questioned about his motives he flew into a rage about the reporter entering into the sanctified elevators bellowing “Excuse me these elevators are for Senators only!” oh and he wasn’t finished after this pathetic temper tantrum he gave the producer “the three finger salute”. What a class act.
Now this is the killer, his reason of blocking the extension was because “how are we going to pay for it”, which seems to be the mantra for most on capital hill. Let’s get some things straight … I get really sick and tired of everyone criticizing what the President is trying to accomplish yet no one has come forward with a bonafied concrete resolution of how to get out of economic nightmare. Especially Bunning, who is one of many that’s responsible for this crisis.
The Facts:
President Obama walked into a $1.3 trillion dollar deficit, the largest in history, the day he entered the White House. When former President Bush came into the White House he had an advantage few presidents ever had, a $230 billion dollar surplus. Then in 2001 there was a $1.35 trillion dollar tax cut, a $1.5 trillion dollar tax cut in 2003, and then massive spending for defense for our troops in Iraq (where we never should have been) and Afghanistan conflicts neither was ever paid for. The new president (fall guy) would inherit this budget deficit of $400 billion, coupled with the economic meltdown this deficit turned into a $1 trillion dollar nightmare.
