Excess in Our Culture
Excess in our culture.
Excess in our culture promotes a feeling of luxury and comfort. However, having an excess of material things in our lives can become an addiction. Instead of simply satisfying our needs, we make long lists of things that we want. We purchase things that we cannot afford on credit and hope that our high status will give us the happiness and peace of mind that we seek. However, the convenience of excess may leave us feeling empty inside. Sometimes we may find ourselves in a house full of expensive toys with no one to hold our hand. Money and material possessions are no substitute for love. Money cannot buy happiness. Just remember that.
It would be nice if we could just be wise enough to trade in some of those wonderful material possessions for a few extra hours of peace and quite. Perhaps instead of working at a job we cannot stand, we could develop one of our hobbies into a rewarding career. Perhaps we could actually do something worth while in this world.
