Fear of a Waterless Future

by S.L. Jensen in Issues, March 11, 2008

Imagine a world where you can’t use water like we do today. Imagine water costing so much we have to conserve it far more than now.

Imagine a world where you must purchase all your drinking water in bottles or barrels. It will be a world where the tap water is only used for flushing toilets and maybe bathing. We will need extra filters to keep pollutants out of our dishwater and our tubs.

In the future we will find populations will shift to areas where there are better supplies of potable water. Our future will not include daily bathes or doing laundry, we will be monitored; taxes and fees for use will be put in place to help conserve water supplies.

What will happen are drastic changes such as over building will not be allowed, over population will not be allowed. In this waterless future people will have no water rights, private wells will not be permitted and our water supplies will be guarded and monitored closely.

We take the abundance and safety of our water for granted. Perhaps we should take a closer look at the arid areas of the world where people and animals die from lack of water. Where children and adults drink foul water full of disease and bacteria. It is a real problem for many areas of the globe.

Over population, deforestation, pollution and global warming are all making the water problems of the earth more and more prevalent. How do we stop this cycle of abuse of life giving water? Where does the next decade take us if we don’t make changes now?

We have a whole generation that doesn’t remember what it was like to not purchase bottled water? In the last few decades we have polluted streams, rivers, lakes and reservoirs with tons of chemicals and waste products that nature and filters never intended to deal with. What is next? Will humans mutate like the frogs and fish in our rivers and lakes? Will water be something to fear?

Who holds the key to the future of our water issues? You and I do. We should not rely on a broken government to handle an issue this important.

Everyone who lives and breathes needs water and we are the ones that need to stop the pollution and waste. There are many organizations that will help you help yourself. Go online type in “water” there are 541,000,000 sites about water. That alone should tell you something about the importance of water!
