Female Circumcision

Female Circumcision. what is Female Circumcision? How and where did Female Circumcision start? What happens during Female Circumcision? why it should end?

This essay will address the topic Female Circumcision. Throughout this essay I will discuss what Female Circumcision is the history of Female Circumcision, what happens during Female Circumcision and the on-going battle to end Female Circumcision.

Female Circumcision is one of the most destructive practices and beliefs going on in the world today. Female Circumcision is also known as female genital mutilation. It is a process where the female’s clitoris is shaved and cut-out using a sharp instrument such as a blade. In African communities a woman who has gone through the process of Female Circumcision is believed to be both clean and ready for marriage. In other words and Female Circumcision confirms that a girl has not had any sex before marriage therefore she is deemed as clean and ready for marriage. Females usually experience Female Circumcision at the very least beginning at their first year of age although most Female Circumcisions take place when the female is usually in their mid to late teenage years. One of the reasons why Females get this done is because it is believed to prevent sexual activity before marriage. Most of the time Female Circumcision happens in Africa but it also has taken place in other areas of the world like Asia, Yemen, Oman, and the Arab Peninsula, and the United States.

If the female who has had the Circumcision done is pregnant and plans to have the baby, she is in serious jeopardy because by having the Circumcision done she is actually putting both her baby’s life and her life in harm’s way because having the clitoris cut off and out crates problems for the woman giving birth to a child and the child can be born with severe deformities due to the mother having had her clitoris cut off and out.

The effects of the female both having the Circumcision and not having the Circumcision are pretty harsh. You see fifteen of Females who have the Circumcision usually die from it. Either by the cut becoming severely infected and / or bleeding to death. For those girls who do not have the Circumcision they are usually ousted by both society and their own family members. So you have to ask yourself this question: What choice do they have? Get circumcised and be accepted by all or not get Circumcised get ousted by everybody? Circumcised women would pick on, make fun of, and actually fight those women who are not circumcised in Africa because there is a very strong belief that Circumcised females did not belong anywhere in Africa.

Female Circumcision is driven by both male dominance and ignorance. Men thought that women would want to have more sex because they are Circumcised. Ignorance is partially to blame because there is no proof that Female Circumcision does or does not prevent sexual activity before marriage. The only thing that is 100 percent clear is that there is a lot gambling with health when you talk about Female Circumcision because the cut can become infected, a child can be born with deformities, and a girl can bleed to death.

Ultimately in 1941 the practice of Female Circumcision was banned in Africa, and through the use of education Female Circumcision banning will continue to happen as people learn what Female Circumcision exactly is.
