Fierce Speeches and Terrorism

Several rogue radio stations are being used by fanatics to spread their blinkered ideas. These scoundrel radio stations are being used by fanatic clergy to deliver violent speeches flooded with hate against other sects. Mullah Fazlullah (alias Mullah Radio) used his illegal radio station to convey his furious messages. The ignorant listeners of these fierce oratories are prone to vent violence in real life after indoctrination by violent lectures. The government did not take necessary measures at the requisite time and now Pakistani nation is harvesting the bitter fruits in the form of countless extremist elements prepared by the use of these radicalism spreading radio stations. These ferocious speeches have great contribution in current surge of extremism, torrent of terrorism and spate of suicide bombings. The government should ban the illegally operating radio stations that are generating sectarian abhorrence and creating cracks in the society.

Use of loud speakers is another instrument of spreading abhorrence in the society. The speeches delivered by some religious Khateebs and Imams are inundated with ingrained hostile attitude against other sects. Loudspeakers are used at the time of religious congregations. People invite paid religious clerics who rake up fat wads of bank notes by exploiting the religious sentiments of the people. Large numbers of loudspeakers are used during such gatherings to convey the message far and wide. Delivery of sectarian hate-laden speeches by irresponsible clerics is very common. Whether someone is convinced or not but one thing is certain that the people of other sects would retaliate by arranging similar gathering to answer their rivals in the same coin. These detestation generating speeches are the major reasons of targeting religious clerics and devout gatherings.

The government should take prompt measures to ban the abuse of loudspeakers. They should be used only for the purpose of Azan and Khutbas of the Jumma and Eid prayers. The use of loudspeakers on other religious congregations should also be banned because some of the clergy behave in an aggressive way and deliver fiery speeches with clandestine intention to undermine other sects. This irresponsibly vented hot air has nothing positive impact on the society. It can only trigger sectarian clashes leading to a vicious cycle of untoward incidents. Similarly, the government should ban all illegally working radio stations in the country that are propagating hatred against other sects. The government should confiscate audio-video CDs and cassettes of such fiery speeches. If the government failed to frame a sound strategy to monitor hate spreading print and electronic material, we are bound to bear the brunt of untoward terrorist incidents having religious and sectarian tinge in the future.

People having gift of the gab can change destiny of the world through delivery of speeches preaching justice and peace in the world. The fuming speeches delivered by various leaders are directly proportional to the soaring intolerance in the society. The world is at the brink of disaster because it has gone nuclear. According to Bertrand Russell in case of eruption of a global nuclear warfare every country possessing nukes would be successful in attacking and unsuccessful in defending. Therefore, preaching restrain is the screech of time to ensure global peace. Religious clergy and educationist can play great role in bringing down scale of extremism, terrorism and suicide bombing through preaching peace and harmony instead of preaching prejudice on the basis of region, religion, sect, ethnicity, etc. There must be intersect and interfaith dialogue to ensure harmonious co-existence. The government should impose certain restrictions on the abuse of loudspeakers, rogue radio stations and mass media so that delivery and propagation of revulsion and bloodshed generating speeches can be reduced to control spate of fanaticism and violence in the society.
