Fighting Terrorism

About the 26/11 Mumbai attack that took place on 26 November, 2008.

Securing Arms

Isn’t it shocking how a group of around ten people or rather terrorists moved an entire nation consisting of over hundred crore people? Well it’s no big deal. If terrorists have to attack there are innumerable ways to do so and it is almost impossible to prevent each one. For e.g. say if one goes from Chandigarh to Delhi carrying a bomb in his vehicle and drops it in Delhi how can the government possibly prevent it? They can’t check each and every vehicle entering each and every city of the country. Therefore, steps such as securing coast guards, upgrading forces etc. can be of little help but instead preventing the illegal trade of arms so that they do not fall in the hand of terrorists can be of great help. If the terrorists do not have arms they can do us no harm but once they acquire them it’s very difficult to stop them.

Moral Education

One should remember that no person is born a terrorist, he becomes a terrorist. But what influences or encourages him to become one? Maybe lack of education but there are terrorists who are educated too. So I would rather say lack of “proper moral education”. As we heard of Kasab, (the terrorist captured in the Mumbai bomb blasts) he was a class four drop out as his family couldn’t afford further education for him. Do you think he would have become a terrorist if he was given proper moral and intellectual education?

These terrorists are given special education that forces them to believe that what they are doing (killing people) is till a certain limit right. This is the same principle that Hitler used. He reformed the education system which included strong and influential teachings that made people genuinely believe that Jews are inferior to them. Similarly, our country’s education system should also be reformed in such a way that students are given not only technical education but also moral education that help them become “better people” and not indulge in acts such as terrorism. Educating the youth in the right way will not only help combating terrorism but also help the country to develop as well.
