Five Charities Worth Supporting

There are so many charitable organizations that send out requests for help that a person can become overwhelmed by these same requests. How does a person decide which charities to support? Find out what criteria a person should use in making this decision by looking at this list of five worthwhiled charities.

Some Plan Canada gifts are things that many in the First World take for granted. One such item is the gift of Birth Certificates, which are said to help prevent child trafficking and open doors for more social and political rights to those who are aided in acquiring them. Another of these, taken for granted items, are Girl’s Only Latrines, which help in allowing girls to attend school. The lack of feminine hygiene products and female only latrines is one of the leading causes of girls dropping out of school in Third World Nations. Plan Canada also has child sponsorship programs. You do not have to live in Canada to donate to this fine organization. They will accept donations from residents of other countries as well.

World Vision

World Vision has a gift center much like Plan Canada, however it is a Faith Based Organization and as such some of their gifts, unlike Plan Canada, do deal with Christian Education. However, they do have a number of gifts that will appeal to those wanting to give, regardless of what their personal religious beliefs may be. These gifts include HIV and AIDS patient care packages, clothing and medicine for children, and water and sanitation programs. World Vision also has donation programs for specific tragedies that arise, such as earthquakes and floods. As this organization already has many people in place around the world it is possible for them to act quickly. World Vision also has child sponsorship programs.

I have included them mainly because of their gift package “Seeds, Tools, and Training in Africa”. This gift can affect those who receive it, and the world as a whole, in many positive ways for a lifetime, as it is designed to aid in the teaching of sustainable agricultural practices with a focus on environmental protection. It only takes $30US for the basic gift in this series of packages, which is not a huge sum when you think about the effect it will have on the future.

Love 146

Love 146 is an organization dedicated to ending child sex slavery and exploitation, through prevention, and the aftercare of its survivors. It is a registered public charity and has been given a seal of approval by The Better Business Bureau. Love 146 deals with the prevention of child sex trafficking in a number of ways, which include education, strengthening of prevention networks, empowerment of youth and child advocates. In regards to aftercare, Love 146 is trying to set up holistic networks that provide care to survivors of sex trafficking. This includes the creation of safe homes for these survivors.

Mark, there are worthwhile charities out there but we do have to look carefully to see how much of the donations are going to the charity and check the salaries of the folks running the charity. I have had a few surprises when looking behind the facade.

Good job. I like how you state: Do not give until it hurts, give to end hurt.
    Thanks,
