Foreign Aid

Westralia, (a rich donor nation) sees the terrible hardships suffered by the people of Thirdworldia, and donates one hundred million dollars.

The so-called “government” of Thirdworldia falls upon the money as hungry hyenas on a rotten corpse. Although a few scraps will actually reach a school, a hospital, build a few homes, the bulk of that money is lining pockets, buying supporters and weapons to insure that whomever is in power stays in power.

Despite the fact that for nearly twenty or thirty or forty years huge sums of money have been given to Thirdworldia, the people remain poor, dying of every disease that has ever existed.

The Leaders of Thirdworldia and their cronies live fabulously. As one leaves the showplace capital, they plunge back five thousand years in time.

It doesn’t take much analysis to appreciate that Westralia is aware that the Leadership of Thirdworldia is pocketing this Aid.

If one does a bit of search, one will find Westralian companies given carte blanche by this Leadership to rape the natural resources of Thirdworldia.

Two hundred million dollars has been made by  Westralian companies within six months of the “gift”.  Much of this money lines the pockets of those who make large contributions to political campaigns. It enables them to operate just outside of the laws of their particular region.

Do-Gooder agencies, recognizing they are operating in a Kakistocracy, seek to empower Non-Governmental Agencies. The Do-Gooders are often destroyed, unless they confine themselves to tiny projects; a school, an orphanage, a clinic, this village.

The fact is, those in power in Thirdworldia couldn’t care less about “their” people. All they care about is power and money.

Those who offer foreign aid are only interested in economic benefits; some obvious, i.e. Firestone’s virtual control of Liberia last century, some not so obvious, the control of diamonds this century.

If Westralia ceased to give aid, would the slack be taken up by Eastalia? And would Eastalia then be able to gain the contracts to exploit Thirdworldia?

This possibility is too dangerous to imagine. So, another one hundred million dollars is given to the Government (so-called) of Thirdworldia. Another half million Thirdworldians die of starvation/disease/exposure /genocide.

Who cares?

It isn’t like they are Westralians who might have some value to the future of the world, they are mere Thirdworldians who ought never have been born.
