Gasoline Refinery Closing Feelings

This could be judged as just a letter to the editor of some printed news paper. But this is how the closing of fuel refineries are really justified.

As far as long haul trucking goes I usually hauled fuel. That let me see exactly what the different refineries in the south west were like. It even instructed me about all the bad things that could happen while the fuel was being produced. Truckers that haul fuel get to learn just about every thing possible about their loads.   There were some times when I hauled a tanker trailer full of bad gas from the loading terminal back to a refinery to get refined again. I was even able to fill up loads of fuel right at the refinery instead of loading it like normal.

This kind of knowledge made me a real choosy gasoline purchaser when the fuel prices first started rising. I would just try to always buy the gas that gave my vehicles the best mileage. I would tell myself that gas prices would drop when consumes got more choosy about which brand they bought. Less sales might hit profits hard enough to force gas companies to compete like they used to. They would try to make gas so good consumers would pick their brand out over others.

Unfortunately the Federal government bowed down to the folk who made large campaign contributions and allowed them large gas companies to sell gas with ethanol in it. The politicians elected told the wealthy folk that they could sell some gas that gave a much lower mileage. Their income could increase legally that way.

I’m sorry to have to say it but having that gasoline refinery loose enough money to close down might help us economically. When some higher mileage fuel is sold all the consumers will have more money to spend on other things.
