Gay Marriage
Homosexuality is everywhere in this country. You can find it anywhere these days. It is in movies, on television, in books and magazines. It has found its spot in all of our media. It is becoming rather normal to see gay couples out and expressing themselves to the world.
Due to all this homosexuality, the issue of gay marriage occurs. Massachusetts has legalized gay marriage within it’s borders, while some other states have taken steps towards acceptance others have banned it altogether. Even the President of our own country, George W. Bush, has proposed a ban on gay marriage for the entirety of the U.S. People should realize and understand how gay marriages should be legal in our country, where we are all equal and have rights.
Many people in the U.S. believe that same sex marriage is wrong. It is against God and religion. It would make marriage feel less honorable. It will affect family’s in devastating ways. It would also encourage gay couples to raise families which will be corrupt. These accusations are all around us, everywhere of everyday.
In this country we live in, people are suppose to respect others’ choices. Everybody in our country has their own rights, as well as marriage rights. Gay marriage may not be right in a religious base, but many people also believe religion to not be right. As we are in a free country, and our free to do as we please, as far as the law will let us, than people should have the right to marry whomever they wish.
Gay marriage would not make marriage less honorable. Marriage is a sacred bond between two people whether same sex or not, it should hold it’s standards. A man can love a man, or woman love a woman, just as much as a man can love a woman, or woman love a man. If they have that love and that bond, then why should the government and we try to keep them from their desires? Nobody tells the straight couples who they can and cannot marry.
Gay marriage cannot harm families. Other countries have been allowing gay marriage for years; studies have shown no real difference in gay families or straight families, they all get the same amount of love and attention. They do not have devastating results and are not corrupt. The children are raised the same as children of a straight couple except maybe with more acceptance of equality and choice of others as their own person, not what somebody or a government wants them to be.
Legalizing gay marriage is not wrong. People just find it hard to get used to. Many people find and will still argue that it is wrong, but some people may find a change of heart. We need to protect our rights, choices, and values as a free people. We need to continue to fight discrimination; we fought discrimination of race now its time to fight the discrimination of sexuality. Some countries have made the first step, like Massachusetts, now its time for the rest of us to follow and defend our freedom.
