Gay Marriage: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

by Keyholder13 in Issues, November 8, 2009

A little article I thought was interesting to write about.

“Gay marriage is now legal in Iowa,” that is one of many things that show up on the news about gay marriage.  Gay people should be able to marry because they are people, too and they should be treated like everyone else.  Just think about what gay people may be feeling when someone uses acrimonious speech against them.  There has been history and things that have happened in the past about gay marriage and many people acclimate to hearing the words “gay marriage”.  Even laws have been made both against and in favor to the gay community.  There are so many different things that happened around the gay community.

In the 2000 census, there were 601,209 gay couples in the U.S. The marriage rate dropped from 232,900 in 200 to 217,800 in 2004.  The time when San Francisco legalized gay marriage, 4,037 marriage licenses were issued and 3,995 gay couples were married, but it wasn’t until later that month the state of California voided all of them. 29 states in all have banned gay marriage, but many of them have not included it in their constitutions.  Some of the states have legalized gay marriage are New York, Massachusetts, Iowa, and California.  Massachusetts legalized gay marriages, but if the person was born on any of the states that have banned it then the person was not allowed to get married. Maybe one day the gay community will have a fluke and more states will approve gay marriages.

Some people may think that gay people are just disrespectful and that they should not act like “gay” in front of children.  Being gay is not something you act, it is something you are born with or is their a rationale from someone else?  Gay “people” are people, too and just like someone would treat a straight person, they should treat a gay person the same.  Sometimes people may insult a gay person and may not think that he or she is someone’s daughter/son.  That person’s child could be gay when they grow up and be insulted the same way or even worse.  There are so many bad things that are done to gay people and that are illegal.

Having 2 gay uncles is not that different from having 2 straight uncles and sometimes people just have to accede that. They play dominos, cards, and videogames just like any uncle would. They talk with people normally and not uncomfortably with everyone. There are many essays, newspapers, or articles that would say the exact opposite to this one, but the truth is that you may not believe any of them until you actually meet a gay person and talk to them.

There are thousands and thousands of gay couples in the U.S. One thing is that they shouldn’t be able to get married.  The government should not legalize gay marriage because it is not what we were taught when we were children.  We were never taught to love someone fro the same sex.  God made a woman for a man and a man for a woman.  Many people

Say that gay people are like straight people and should be treated the same.  Well, straight people do follow the law and no gay marriage is a law. Which one seems more convincing?

There are so many things to do to help gay marriage be legalized in the whole country.  There are people that organize marches and there are people who all they can do to help is think differently. Many people may not believe this essay, but they should go out there and find a relative or someone they know is gay and talk to them. If they talk to them then it would all make sense. There is nothing else to do, but change their feelings towards gay people.

Gay people seem to come out more and more each time into society.  You see more and more gay people, but can it be true that they can’t get married in some states? Yes, and it seems like even though they are like everyone else, they sure aren’t treated like anyone else.  Laws and history can tell you a lot about the gay community and maybe some day gay marriages will be legalized in the whole world.

They came for the rights of blacks and sold them into slavey and no one helped them.

They came for the rights of the Indians to take their land and no one helped them.

They came for the rights of the Jews to live in Germany and no one helped them.

They came for the rights of the Palistinians to control their land and no one helped them.

They came for the rights of the Gays……

“God made a woman for a man and a man for a woman.”

Whose God? You and I have two different Gods. My God created the universe through the beautiful and Poetic process of evolution. My God created us equal, male and female, Gay and straight. And as equals we all need to have equal rights.

You cannot push your religious bullshit on the people of America. This Nation is not a Christian nation, it is a secular one. When you push your religion as law, you are creating tyranny. I won’t stand for tyranny.
