It was possible that Osama bin Laden has been found more quickly if the CIA had followed the advice of geographers from University of California, Los Angeles. Professor Thomas Gillespie, along with Agnew and more students, they wrote a 2009 study in which statistical predictions about where Osama is located.

According to a probabilistic model, the chance that bin Laden was hiding in a town located less than 300 km from Tora Bora were 88.9% (last hiding place of Osama knew about that) is exactly the region that included Abbottabad, Pakistan, where he was killed, and not in a cave where it is suspected that lurk.
Prediction of students is based on the theory of island biogeography “and a GIS software. This theory, created in 1967 by MacArthur and Wilson American biologists, describes the environmental community the size of an island. The theory is used in the designation of natural reserves. The probability that species on a large island to disappear after a catastrophic event is greater than the species on a small island, according to this theory. In other words, “ if you try to survive, to move into a region with a low mortality rate: that is a big city , “said Gillespie. Basically, it was unlikely that Osama to live in a small town that could be easily recognized. The theory is applied in the case of endangered birds.
After research, the team reached an area where Osama have access to medical care. Then, the research team showed that Osama would opt for building electricity, privacy, security conditions, but also a space big enough for his family.
Geographers have made a deal so good that they sent MIT International Review magazine survey. Next day, they received requests from several media interviews.
Predictions were treated with reserves of some scientists who said that the authors have been too confident in the results, especially the last official information about Osama’s lair on the 2001.

Very interesting information that you provide. Sometimes, the authorities do like take them for granted. Who would have guessed, the information given by people who are not professional, proven correct. Apparently, using a theoretical probability, we can know the location of Osama bin Laden’s hideout.
