Globaization’s Effect on the World
Globalization is having a negative impact on the world.
Proof of this includes Chinese industries buying Australian land for good prices, and then turning it into mineral refineries for economical gain. The Australian migratory shorebirds are declining, thanks to China, Japan, and Korea not honoring their Migratory Bird Protection agreement. In addition, globalization is causing a lot of worldwide inflation, including exorbitant gas prices. Also, trade is polluting the environment with dangerous gasoline emissions which are causing global warming. If we are not careful, the negative impact of globalization will have permanent consequences on the world economy and landscape.
Chinese industries in Australia are turning Australian wetlands into mineral refineries (www.corpwatch.com.) Australian people have sold their land to Chinese industries for good prices, without knowing that then, China uses the land to build mineral refineries. They are mining bauxite, the most important type of aluminum ore, which is destroying the Australian ecosystems (www.corpwatch.com.) China needs the bauxite to fuel its growing economy. It is turning the wetlands in Australia into mineral refineries, destroying the delicate balance of the wildlife in these areas. Globalization is affecting the Australian bird populations. As birds are getting ready to migrate, people start monitoring them carefully (www.thedaily.com.) They have noticed that there has been a drastic decline in shorebird population. It has dropped by 75% in the last twenty-five years (www.thedaily.com.) Fifteen Australian bird species have dropped 81% collectively (www.thedaily.com.) Australia has a Migratory Bird Protection agreement with China, Japan, and Korea. Helping the birds isn’t a priority to these governments, so the birds are declining in number (www.thedaily.com.) The Australians are unhappy about this because they don’t want to see their land and wildlife go to waste and be turned into a over polluted, deserted wasteland (www.corpwatch.com.) China’s industries and globalization are affecting people, places, and animals who don’t want to be affected. This is one reason why globalization is viewed in such a negative light.
Globalization is boosting prices of everything on a large scale (www.newsweek.com.) Many people are getting poorer because of significant inflation. Gas prices are going up because of heightened demand and a shortage of supply (www.newsweek.com.) People’s budgets are being crimped because of the frighteningly high gas prices. Everywhere the price of gas is skyrocketing. Some people can’t drive to work because they can’t afford gas. If people can’t work, it hurts the economy. Also, United States industries are more susceptible to foreign industries because there is a lot of competition, and often other countries can produce the same goods at a lower price (www.newsweek.com.) Wages are diminishing because of wage deflation causing a bigger division between rich people and poor people. The economies of the United States and other countries are gaining, and the rich people are getting richer, whereas the poor people are getting poorer. This division in socioeconomic status can cause a lot of strife in the poorer communities, which can lead to unwanted violence for the government to deal with.
