Global Warming Crisis
Global Warming is the biggest threat to the future of the earth.
The most disastrous outcome or global warming would have to be the shrinking polar ice caps. As discussed in the last paragraph, greenhouse gasses are raising the earth’s temperature; thus melting the polar ice caps in the Arctic. Since 1979, 20% of the polar ice caps have shrunk, and by 2100 the melting ice would cause a 3-foot sea level rise. This would cause coastal areas in Louisiana, Texas, Florida, and North Carolina to disappear underwater (“Global”). Around the world, big cities like San Francisco, and Shanghai would vanish off our maps. Not only would we loose part our country, but many people would also loose their lives.
In every issue, there are always two sides. Global warming is no exception. For one thing, many scientists believe that global warming has occurred naturally throughout earth’s history for the past four billion years. Many people, however, don’t care and aren’t willing to accept the fact that global warming is here. They think that it doesn’t really concern them. People also believe that the worst effects of global warming won’t hit us any time soon. In a way that is true because most of us won’t see the most disastrous outcomes in our lifetime.
With the crisis of global warming in our hands, we can’t stop global warming. However, we can slow it down to such a rate, where it won’t be harmful anymore. One of the biggest ways we can do this is buy cutting down on our carbon-dioxide emissions. Using cleaner and more environmentally friendly resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear, and hydraulic energy can solve this. In turn the reduce of carbon-dioxide emissions will bring the temperatures back to a comfortable rate, which will stop the melting of polar ice, and it will bring animals back to their original habitats. Together as a global community we can work together to slow down global warming and make the world a better place.
