Global Warming May Not be Caused by Humans
This is an article I wrote for my climate class that explains why humans may not be causing climate change after all. I am a meteorology student.
The last thing I believe we need to know in order to predict future climate change is what causes global cloud cover to change. This is probably the most important unanswered question that meteorologists and climatologists must figure out before we can forecast future climate. Cloud cover changes on Earth and the level at which they form at. High level clouds cause warming because they trap in heat and do not block enough sunlight to over come this. Low level clouds, however, cause cooling because they also trap in heat but block more heat than they trap by blocking sunlight. A theory that tries to explain what controls global cloud cover is the Cosmic Ray-Cloud Cover Theory. It was first described by Henrik Svensmark and other researchers at the Danish Space Center. The theory explains that the amount of cosmic rays entering Earth’s atmosphere is dependent on solar activity and that cosmic rays help create cloud cover. Increased solar activity blocks more cosmic rays from entering our atmosphere and therefore creating less clouds which allows more sunlight to reach Earth. Much more research is needed to determine if this theory is correct and how important it is to climate change.
With all of this being said, I believe we can not presently predict future climate change because we do not know enough about the climate here on Earth.
