Ground Zero Mosque: President Agrees But I Don’t!

My response to a statement about the President’s support of the Ground Zero Mosque!

I DO NOT Support the proposed Mosque near ground zero!

I fully believe that they have the right to build where ever they like, but that doesn’t mean that they should!  It is definitely a slap in the face to the victims and families of those affected by the horrible, cowardly, unwarranted, terrorist attacks on the world trade center on September 11th!  Of Course, we shouldn’t hold all Muslims accountable for these acts, but we must come to terms with the fact that thousands of innocent Americans (including some Muslims) were killed in the name of radical Islam.

The Imam Feisal Abdul Raul insists that the intentions of this Mosque are to rebuild the relationship and ease tensions between the US and Muslims, however, this goal will not be accomplished if so many are against it.  You wouldn’t put a Baptist Church in the middle of Vatican City, Rome, or even some places in Utah because there is no real reason unless you are trying to make a point!  All of these areas are heavily concentrated with people of different faiths.  (You can also use the example of Japanese shrine at Pearl Harbor, Church outside of Auschwitz, etc.)  Actually, some nuns once proposed a church near Auschwitz.  This church definitely offended the many Jews who lived here and the Pope publically denounced the building of this church because it would do more harm than good and ruin a good relationship with the Jewish population.

Therefore, I now ask, “What is the point the Cordoba House (?)  is trying to make with this mosque?”  It is in no way bettering the relationships between the US and Muslims (the majority of Americans don’t want it so it would only make tensions worst).  Moreover, this area is mostly commercial, not residential!  Don’t you want a mosque where Muslims could easily get to?  Most Muslims in New York live in Brooklyn so they’d have to cross the river, go through horrible New York traffic, and simply go out of their way to get there.  There is no reason why they can’t move this mosque.

On top of all of this, the Imam himself has a questionable past.  As of today, he refuses to condemn Hamas as a terrorist organization, he said America was an accessory to 9/11 and Bin Laden was “made in America,” and to top it all off, we still don’t know where the funding for this project is coming from.  If this is truly an interfaith, bridge-gapping project THEY WOULD MOVE IT!  Don’t pour salt on the wounds of so many Americans!
