Welcome to the second of my series on terrorists and suicide bombers. In this article I would like to briefly introduce you to 5 of the 12 major groups of suicide bombers found around the world. Remember know your enemy, an informed prepper is a knowledgeable survivalist.

The first group which I would like to familiarize you with is the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam or the LTTE. This assembly of terrorists operates out of Sri Lanka. The LTTE was established in 1976 and has since developed into the most dominant terrorist group in Sri Lanka. This organization merges overt and illegal operations in order to finance their diverse illicit operations. It was not until 1983 that this faction began an ongoing conflict with the Sri Lanka government. It is reported at this time that the organization is in a cease-fire commitment with their countries officials and both sides are seeking a peaceful resolution to the issues at hand. This group of criminals productively combines a battlefield insurgent approach with common terrorist activities. Their primary targets are key political officials and military leaders and political assassinations are a routine part of their lives. Fortunately at this time they have not targeted foreign interests and have centered solely upon their nations representatives. The LTTE holds the standard for maritime bombing and even today the Midwestern terrorist groups tend to emulate their techniques. Of interest are the delivery techniques that they use ranging from watercraft wolfpack formations up to the use of submarines with torpedoes.

The second group is better known from the newscasts. It is the Hizballah of Lebanon. This group was formed in 1982 to counterattack the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. Its basic tenants follow closely with that of the Iranian radical ideologies. Their major goals are to liberate Jerusalem while eradicating Israel. Their day to day activities appear to be directed and controlled by Iran. They are believed to have had a hand in the truck bombings of Beruit in 1983 and the embassy bombing the following year. There are about several thousand supporters with a few hundred direct operatives. There are active cells fore this terrorist group here in America.

Now we will cover the Islam Resistance Movement or commonly known as the Hamas. This terrorist group was created in 1987 as the Palestinian branch of the Muslim brotherhood. They are actively engaged in terrorist warfare to eliminate Israel and install Palestinian control within the area. This group works openly with mosques and various social services groups. So far this group has not targeted American interests although there has been some Americans killed as a result of their activities. There are currently no known cells here in America.

Number five on our list is the Palestinian Islamic jihad or the PIJ. This is another of the Gaza strip terrorist groups which are committed to establishing a Palestine state after the destruction of Israel. This group also has not actively targeted American interests and it confines its terrorist attack within the confines of Israel.

The most popular group is Al-Qaida. This group was established in 1980 by Bin Ladin in an effort to unite Arabs from Afghanistan against the Soviet Union aggression. Its current goal is to create a world of Islamic nations. This group was made even larger in 2001 when it merged with the Egyptian Islamic Jimad known as al-jihad. There are likely several thousand members and associates of this group. They have active, cells worldwide including America.

We have covered six of the 12 terrorist groups and will continue our details tomorrow as we conclude the final six.

There’s Anarchist International, Aum Shinrikyo of Japan (and Red Army), Red Army Faction of Germany, American Christian White supremacists, Eco-Terrorists, Alpha Group (KGB), Millenarian groups, Anti-Imperialist International Brigades, Red Brigades of Italy, Aryan Nations, Freemasons, etc. I could list more but I think this’ll do for now.
