Gun Control
There are a lot of opinions on guns and gun control. I’ve seen too many issues with it, too much violence in my city to not have an opinion.
Let me start this article by saying that I reside in the Philadelphia area. In recent weeks we’ve had a police officer shot and killed senselessly, a number of other fatal shootings, armed robbery, and it seems to get worse day by day, year by year. I’ve heard many arguments about guns and the rights to own them. I’ve seen very sensible laws struck down as unconstitutional because they restrict or try to control gun ownership. I figured it’s about time that this issue was dealt with in a fair manner. I think it’s absolutely hideous that politicians won’t either ban or control guns that have no use in homes.
Most assault rifles and hand guns server no purpose but to kill people. Hunters don’t even have a use for most guns. I’m not against hunting or even against having guns, but unless we start arming our deer and bears while we hunt them there’s no need for assault rifles. They are made for war, plain and simple. I also don’t have a problem with people owning a hand gun to “protect” themselves. But until we start growing extra limbs, why should we have 10, 20, or even 30 handguns? Of course some will say they collect them, and that’s fine. I personally don’t see any inherent beauty in a gun, or some exquisite hand crafting. But that’s my opinion. There are people who think collecting anything is useless.
In Philadelphia, they are going to reject a law that requires you to report missing or stolen guns within a certain amount of days. That’s asinine. Are we saying that nobody should take responsibility for a weapon that is registered (hopefully) to them should they lose it or have it stolen? Should we wait for that weapon to end up in the wrong hands and hurt or kill someone first? Every law limiting the amount of guns you can purchase either is rejected outright or faces very harsh opposition and barely passes. Does the NRA have that many politicians and law makers in their pockets? Do they have that much dirt on our so-called leaders? Does anyone really care, or for that matter know, what the 2nd amendment really says? If not, here it is: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”.
