Gun Control
There are a lot of opinions on guns and gun control. I’ve seen too many issues with it, too much violence in my city to not have an opinion.
It was created at a time when having a gun really could mean your basic survival against wild animals, hunger, and enemy attacks. Times have changed a little since that law was made, and since we lived right in the middle of the woods, and were still fighting for independence as a country. We no longer have a need for militias. We don’t need to hunt our food. Again, I’m not against hunting, but any hunter who may be reading this most likely does not hunt with assault weapons or handguns.
Some people say that guns don’t kill people, but rather people kill people. When I see a gun walking down the street by itself, without a human being attached to it, killing people at random then I’ll believe that. People who want to kill people find it a lot easier to do it with a gun. In the past a coward didn’t start much trouble for fear of being beaten up. Now a cowardly person instantly grows a pair because they have a gun. In the wake of all the tragic school shootings, senseless killings, and mass murders using guns I ask that since some believe guns don’t kill people then what would those same killers have used?
I find it hard to believe that a whole classroom full of college students would stand by and let themselves be stabbed, beaten, or even stoned to death by one person. That’s just my opinion. I find it hard to believe that as many people would commit armed robberies. I’m sure they would, but not nearly as many. I’m tired of turning on the news everyday just to get a body count from the night before. It’s rare to hear anyone killed by any means other than a gun these days. What’s wrong with laws governing gun purchasing and ownership since it seems we aren’t mature enough to take responsibility for ourselves, our actions, or our possessions when it comes to guns?
I hope I do live to see the day that America wakes up and realizes how far behind we are when it comes to gun control. It’s a shame that a beautiful, historically significant city like Philadelphia can have more gun related deaths in two months than some countries have in a year. But amazingly people will still argue that guns aren’t a problem. I’d say ask the families and surviving victims of senseless gun violence if guns aren’t a problem in our nation. If we all believe in the importance of education then read the 2nd amendment for yourself. All of it, not just the part that you want to see.
You too might realize that it needs to be updated. The Red Coats ain’t coming no more. We don’t need militias to be formed at the drop of a hat. And with the exception of Bigfoot, your average forest creature can’t fight back with an AK-47, similar assault weapons, or handguns when we go a-hunting. We don’t have to ban guns, but we certainly have to do something to control them and the wrong hands they always seem to end up in. It must be done for our future, our children’s future, and for all the people in this great nation who are very, very allergic to the bullets they fire.
Matter of fact, forget banning guns. Nothing in the constitution prevents the banning of bullets. You listening all you politicians and law makers out there? That idea is free.
