Hamas and Israel Agree to a Ceasefire
The organization announced that the main Islamist movement in Gaza Palestinians agreed to a temporary truce. It was after the Netanyahu government committed itself to stop not to launch any military operation.
The Islamist group Hamas and Israel pledged today to calm the situation in Gaza, announcing a temporary ceasefire involving a truce by Palestinian militias and the resignation of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to launch a ground offensive.
The security cabinet headed by Netanyahu decided in a meeting “emergency” does not throw any ground military operation in the Gaza Strip.
The meeting was called hours after the main Palestinian movements in Gaza,Hamas, were to ”an informal agreement to establish a truce on condition that Israelcease its attacks.”
In a statement, the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), a radical group based in Gaza, today announced a ”temporary cease-fire,” which until yesterday had failed toHamas. Israel accused the CRP to be directly involved in Thursday’s attacks in the region of Eilat, near the Egyptian border, which killed 8 Israelis, including six civiliansgunned down nearby.
In an immediate Israeli reaction was eliminated almost the entire leadership of theorganization, in two air strikes in Rafah, southern Gaza.
Israeli retaliation continued into yesterday morning with bombings in Gaza. As part of those air strikes have killed five policemen Egyptians in the Sinai, sparking tensionsbetween Egypt and Israel.
According to a report of the Multinational Force, deployed in the Sinai after the peace treaty between Israel and Egypt in 1979, Israeli forces violated the existing rules, toenter Egypt and make shots, allegedly causing the deaths of the policemen.
This is the first diplomatic crisis between the two neighboring countries in February after the fall of the regime of Hosni Mubarak.
