Harry Read Me File and Climategate
Are the Harry Read Me files Legit and if they are what do they mean for global warming theory?
Let me tell you that the Harry Read me files make for some interesting reading and if they ever manage to leave the realm of the internet blog and enter into the main stream media the are going to cause some serious disturbances among the environmentalist sect. As a serious global warming sceptic I cannot feign surprise at what appears to be an almighty, in fact monumental, cock-up by the Climate Research Unit (CRU) in East Anglia. I am not talking about the leaking of the files but rather the idea that they could allow the global warming theory to be based on what now appears to be seriously faulty computer programming used to analyse the world temperature data that has been collected. This damages the global warming theory no end and reminds us that it is just that: a theory, and one that is not in fact as universally accepted by scientists as we have been lead to believe. One of the aspects that must be most worrying to the environmentalists is that the CRU is one of the weightiest of the research departments into global temperatures.
For sceptics these leaked emails are welcome news as they will force the environmentalists to open themselves up to debate as to the state of the global climate, a debate that up to this time was often put off and sceptics dismissed as irrationals who would not accept blatant scientific truth. The truth is that many are so determined to present themselves as rationale beings that they will not argue with ’science’. This is a truth that is readily observable in some of the pseudoscience that has become popular in the western world in recent decades (such as biorhythm) but that is another article altogether. Both adherents and sceptics of global warming should welcome this new controversy as it will allow open debate and will force science to explore other avenues and to question assumptions; after all questioning is that which science is meant to do.
From a negative viewpoint the leaked Harry Read Me file will inevitably lead to the arising of a number of conspiracy theories:was the email leaked or hacked and what does that mean for its significance? Does such corruption result from huge amounts of money to be made from the research of global warming? and, my personal favourite, in what way does the New World Order stand to benefit from either the leaking of the email or the continued investigation of global warming (depending which side of the fence the conspiracy theorist is on). Such conspiracies may be good fun to read, in which case the wilder the better, but they are supremely un-useful to the integrity of a case to be made against global warming. The more that sceptics resort to such theories the more likely they are to be disregarded by both science and the main stream media. The global warming sceptics have been given a gift that will assist them in having a spotlight shone directly onto their soapbox. Let’s hope that conspiracy theories do not result in them staring directly into the maws of this particular gift horse.
