Health Care in The US

Health care in the US is a big topic of conversation and the media has taken the ball and ran completely out of the ball park.

I cannot for the life of me understand why so many people are fired up against a better health care system in the United States. We all know our system is down the drain. Insurances and Drug companies have taken us all down the primrose path and we have followed them willingly. Let us look to Canada, France or Germany and get our show on the road. Why stall and demonstrate against what is best for our own country and our people.

We have millions of people without any insurance. How many die every day due to having no health care, we don’t know, but you can bet your boots it’s thousands. I would like to see everyone in the US have a universal plan but that is not what president Obama is asking for. He wants everyone who has good insurance to be able to keep it and only add an insurance plan for people who do not have insurance and cannot get it under our current system.

There have been rumors going around about refusing seniors treatments because of age. That is not true. Seniors would keep their Medicare just as it is now. I for one would not object to sharing in a plan that would provide for all our citizens. Seniors are no more entitled to health care than younger folks struggling to raise a family. In fact those families deserve health care more than seniors do. I am a senior and I would rather see families provided with good health care than myself. I don’t understand why we should be so selfish as to try to deprive anyone. One person deserves health care just as much as another one.

President Obama is speaking about opening more schools for nurses and hiring more teachers. We have a serious shortage of nurses. He is speaking about general doctors earning more money. As it is now they have the job of trying to keep their patients healthy and then the specialists and surgeons step in and reap the big money. I agree non-specialist should be paid more.

I believe one of the problems is that folks who are fighting against any universal health care plan have good health insurance policies and they don’t understand that many people do not qualify for, or have no money to get health insurance. They don’t seem to understand they might stand in that uninsured persons shoes any day. It can happen to anyone who loses a job, or has a chronic health condition, and look around you at the people who have lost jobs. It’s hard for me to believe anyone could be so selfish that they would want to deprive others of what they themselves have. I want to believe we care about our fellowman.

You write a good article but it is more about politics than health care. I don’t argue politics and religion before breakfast. I’m heading for the kitchen.

Very well written Ruby. The medical community must cooperate at this times of crisis not become the monster they should not be. Or else they would be merely sticking with their hypocratic oath to save lives but actually prolonging patient’s agony milking them for money. Politics could only play its part but everyone must do their own.

This statement is true. Because, I am one of the ones who was laid off my job. I lost my medical insurance and I have a chronic illness. I was like what am I going to do. The medicine I take is very expensive and it keep me going. But, I thank the Lord I get my medicine free. I have no worries beside when, I go the the doctor I have to pay the doctor and you know how that is.

Ken is right. It is more about politics than health care (or anything that could actually be beneficial for that matter). Those who are bitter about President Obama being elected in the first place, do not want to see him get anything accomplished. Then in 2012, they can say, “See? He didn’t keep any of his promises!”

My parents have a co-pay plan, and from what I understand we’re lucky to have it. The thing is, it doesn’t cover emergency room visits. That is to say, when I get sick, I get sick enough to warrent and ER visit, go nice big bill. What are you going to do? I mean, people will pay hundreds of dollars CASH for their pets to get treated, yet when it comes to themselves, they don’t want to pay the money. Besides, by law hosptials are supposed to admit you into their care no matter what your condition is.

Ruby, ask someone in Germany, Canada, or France how their health care really is. A kid I’m going to work with (I’m taking my sisters job in a few weeks and Justin is his name works there- he came from Germany) claims that the health care is bad. He also says ER visits take atleast 24 hours, where as in the U.S. it’s only two. A bad wait for sure, but not as bad as 24. But it’s a lot about politics, and that’s where the bill goes bad. I don’t think it’s meant to help the people, and that scares me. It just semed way to controlling when I read it.

Ruby, great article. It really comes down to politics and our governments inability to cover all the bases. The biggest travesty is to our seniors. Seniors gave us life and taught us right from wrong and to see the attitude of ignorant, selfish citizens doesn’t surprise me anymore. It’s the duty of our government to provide us all with policies that work, not policies that keep lining the pockets of insurance company’s and Physicians. This plan can work if implemented with all the right direction. Good One Ruby. Your on it!

Over here in the UK we have plenty of trained nurses and doctors. The trouble is, there is no money to employ them!

As always great work Ruby!Yes it is hard to believe some people could be so selfish and blinded by their own ignornace that they cannot see or care that some people are dying because they cannot afford healthcare!

Our health care system stinks but in reality its one of the best. Canada and some of the countries you mentioned, actually may provide insurance for their citizens, but at a price. I have many friends from over seas etc. They come to America, to have their operations, why? Because if they stay in their own country they would probably die before they get the surgery they need.
I agree that health insurance is important, and there has to be a better way, more affordable, I agree.
Of course that is mine opinion, and it is not to be political, it is the politicians that are slowing down our process. If a person shows up at a local hospital he will be cared for, they will not be turned away, and I know this because at one time, I did not have medical attention and they treated me for 4 days with TLC.

This is a good article, Ruby. I don’t see what the fuss is about for getting better health care either. I guess it’s all about politics like some of the other people said.

Good points. I think that people who’re already fine don’t want everyone else being equal to them when it comes to receiving health care. They probably feel that they worked so hard to afford their own health care, and can’t understand why all of a sudden all the poorer people could be treated just as well as they are.
These folk are selfish! This is the only reason they’re opposing the plan. What they have is not going to be taken away from them, is it. So why the long face, I ask.
