Health Care Should Not be a Right: Summarized
I recently wrote an article which was very long, but in depth. Because of its length I decided to summarize it in a smaller essay. I hope this proves useful and might turn some of you look at my full length article.
I recently wrote an article titled “Health Care Should Not Be a Right.” The article was fairly in depth and explained in my opinion why I thought health care should not be a right. I went about this by first defining all the terms in the recent health care debate and then used my logic to explain what could happen to our freedoms if we incorporate socialized medicine into our American society. Since my article was so long, I’ve decided to summarize it in this brief essay.
Presently, the right to health care (except emergency care) does not exist in America. If health care was to become a right, and a system subsidized by the U.S. government (U.S. tax payer) incorporated into society, an infringement on many of your rights would inherently occur. Government run health care would eventually lead to the disintegration of private sector health care. It’s only natural, regardless of what Obama promises. When this happens, government will be responsible for taking those originally with private health care under its wing.
Once government has everyone under its health care plan, one has to ask themselves, “Why is government responsible for picking up my health care tab?” The only logical answer is, “because government is responsible for your well-being.” For those who are wondering, well-being is: a good or satisfactory condition of existence; a state characterized by health, happiness, and prosperity (dictionary.com). For the stability of one mans mental health and well being, he can’t live in a city, or else he would go insane. Therefore the government (tax payer) should pay for his new home in the country, right? A woman who makes money showing off her body needs breast implants and a tummy tuck. Her health depends upon her having a job, which depends on the enhancement of her physical attributes. Shouldn’t that be picked up by the tax payer? Who is anyone to tell that man where he can’t live, or what that woman can’t do to her body?
If government then becomes responsible for taking care of our health and well-being, then another question arises, “How?” Well, by protecting its citizens from that which will threaten their health and well being. Should someone who works the construction trade not be allowed to work because the job is a dangerous one? How about the linemen for the electric company? This is a scary subject because it can be taken very far very easily. However, this is a contradiction from recent court cases all across the country in which people have taken the government to court for not protecting them. The rulings have all come out pretty much the same which say, in a nut shell, that government is not responsible for protecting it’s citizens (other than from foreign threats). Does this mean that if you tried to sue the government, because your sister died because of a lack of treatment, you couldn’t?

I know my main article is a long one, but I encourage anyone with some free time to read it and tell me what they think. If my logic doesn’t make sense, then post some comments. Let me know. I’m always trying to learn more and perfect my ideas.
