Health Care- Why You Deserve It

This article is about the health care debate. I love to hear opinions and a lively debate.

It is about  time I wrote another blog…

I am sure you are well aware that the United States is debating  the issue of health care.  It is about  time that real reform was done!

Some facts:

-We, the United States, are the only industralized  country without some form of  universal  health care.

-We guarantee in our constitution the “general welfare” for our  citizens.

-We are ranked 37th by the World’s Health Organization for world’s health systems (behind countries such as Canada, Norway, Saudi Arabia, etc.)

-We spend 16% of our GDP on health care. Canada spends 10%. Norway spends 8%.   Canada and Norway rank as better health care systems than we do.

-45,000 Americans die  each year from being unisured.

These are just some quick facts.  The list goes on and on.  Now the  question is why do you deserve health care?

The first answer is of course it is a moral issue and therefore a basic human right.  General Welfare  is specifically outlined in the  Preamble of the Constitution.  We should care for every human being! Since when did America lose all of its concern for its fellow man?  We want every child to have an education, we want  every elderly person to have Medicare, we want every driver to have car insurance, yet we do not want every individual to live a quality life.  Think of it this way-if you saw a fellow human being in pain/injured/sick, would  you do everything in your power to help that person?  My guess is you would.   My guess is you care.  Therefore, not  only is it specifically outlined in  our Constitution, but guess what- we should CARE!  You deserve  to live a  healthy life without  the threat of going bankrupt simply because  you could not  afford the  current system.

This brings me  to the  other  issue-money.  It is very easy to point  out the moral obligation.  Now its time to talk about affordability.  Simply look  at our current GDP and  how much we spend  of  our GDP compared to other countries.  We obviously are NOT getting our finances  right!  Some of the  bills being  offered in Congress  right  now  have gone through the  Congress Budget Office (including the ones  with Public  Options) and they will save us money and not add to our deficit, in fact they REDUCE  the deficit.  I would get on a rampage  about  why we need insurance companies at all  but  I will save  that article for another time.

The only logical question I have left is:why do we not already have health care for all?

Good question. However I’m not the right person to answer as I’m not U.S. citizen.
