Hooters Exploits Women

My opinion on how Hooters exploits womens anatomies.

Hooters of America is the Atlanta operator and franchiser of over 435 sites in 44 states. They are not a family restraunt but claim to be a neighborhood restraunt. Although they do offer children’s menus Hooters customers consist of 68 percent males. They do not market themselves to families.

Hooters girls are the cornerstone of the Hooters concept. Their uniforms consist of orange shorts, and a white tank top or long sleeve T-shirt(keep in mind neither covers very much). And yet their web site states “Claims of Hooters exploits the female anatomy are ridiculous.” I have to disagree.

Their web site also states that Hooters hire women who best fit the image of a Hooters girl. Now that statement tells me if a women who is obese or small breasted walks into the restraunt ready to apply for a job with Hooters they will be declined. If you look at the Hooters web site or subscribe to a Hooters swimsuit magazine you see beautiful, well endowed women. Not women who unfortunately were not born into this world so blessed.
Also Hooters claims that being female is necessary for the performance of the Hooters girls job duties. This is when I have to ask what are their job duties? This suggests to me that maybe the female anatomy has some part in these so called job duties sense it is obvious men do not have these.

In 1991 an investigation was conducted against Hooters hiring practices claiming they discriminated against men. The investigation lasted 4 years. The EEOC determined what executives had told all along.
They only hire women as Hooters girls. And although many people (including myself) haven’t any desire to see men walking around in kinky orange shorts and tank tops it does seem a little unfair.

here has also been some controversy over the name. Hooters adopted the owl as its mascot to give the executives cover for the real meaning of the restraunts moniker. But Mike Mc Neil, vice president of marketing, admits he prefers to position Hooters as a slightly sexy alternative to the established affordable food joint.
My opinion is “Yes, Hooters does exploit females.” But it is also my opinion that it is the woman’s choice what career path they follow.
