How Can Popular Discourse Support Female Identity?

  1. Some women are liberated from the male gaze by the burqa.  Its  historic practical origins include a form of guarding against  forms of gender-based violence.

It was a breath of fresh air when some years ago it was reported Britney Spears stated she would remain a virgin until marriage i.e. founded on her Christian beliefs and upbringing.  I care not for the accuracy of that report, what followed nor for the inevitable self-proclaimed-atheist scathing.  Spears seems an unlikely feminist role-model.  A child-star and then sex-symbol, she has had her children removed from her.  She has been so fiscally successful that she elicits little sympathy as someone who must surely have access to all and any resources.  Surely?  Don’t bank on it.

For young girls to be given permission to respect and cherish their bodies and their chastity and nurture long-term purpose for themselves as sentient beings, emanated from the teenage Spears in this report and as such a rare treasure to behold within popular Western culture.  I wonder subsequently did Spears have access to the liberating forces of discourse in her own incumbent circumstances as she herself blasted into adult womanhood and motherhood via superstardom?  I would be interested in her true story.

Who was the muppet who put their name to the recent tabloid slogan WHY I HATE FEMINISM ?  Feminism barely exists in this oxymoron.  It’s like an atheist being angry with the God they don’t believe in and all His natural disasters and human misery.  Feminism is a label for conceptualising.  It is not the fixed opposite of chauvinism, nor its female counterpart. Feminism is an idea of freedom.  Your idea, my idea, her idea.  Even his idea, if he plays fair.

There is no cult of feminism.  It was never allowed.
