How I Would Fix Healthcare in America

In this article I write about requirring people on government assistance to work, the unisured paying up front before recieving treatment, and other ideas that could reduce cost in healtcare.

I am going to solve this whole “healthcare crisis”.  Mr. Obama says his goal is to make healthcare more affordable for people.  This implies people will be paying less for healthcare and have greater access.

First, let me tell you my principle statement on all economic issues.  Every person should do a life cost assessment.  In addition, every person should work at earning enough to meet the real cost of life.  No one is born with children, deep in debt, and married to a miserable spouse they would like to see disappear.

Now I will continue with my thoughts on current healthcare in America.  If government takes over the healthcare system of America, government can set prices.  In addition, government can set standards for service and accessibility.

A while back, I was doing some research and I came across some simple facts.  Americans collectively pay around 2.4 trillion dollars in healthcare a year.  Sixty percent or so is for treatment of critical care.  Diabetes and cancer would qualify in the definition of critical care.  Therefore, preventable illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, and other preventable illnesses are the bulk of healthcare.  Yes, caner is preventable.

Where do you think you would spend more money?  Would you spend more money in a health education and rewards program?  Would a government take over of healthcare cost more?  Of course, a government take over of healthcare would cost more.

Here is something even more perverse.  Our culture has information overload on healthcare issues.  Every day television, radio, newspapers, magazines, Internet, and other media dispense an enormous amount of healthcare information.  However, as many people smoke, over eat, and practice other high-risk behaviors today as twenty years ago.

I just had my dinner.  I ate a fried stake, 4 onion rings, and 12 ounces of whole corn kernels.  My beverage was two glasses of ice tea. Recently, I have decided I cannot keep eating according to my desires.  My health had a lot to with my change in diet.

Therefore, I wonder why people cannot change their behaviors.  We are not an ignorant people.  We all know about greases and sugar clogging arteries.

All right, I am getting of topic.  Currently over 80% of people living in America have access to healthcare.  The people who are left out are the individuals earning less then ten thousand a year.  I am just using 10k as an arbitrary number.
