How Shall Freedom Be Defended?

This is an excerpt from a declamation that our teacher in 1st year high school wanted us to recite.

Yeah! I made it! I did recite the declamation with action. Actually, during that time I did not internalize what’s really the meaning of it. I was 13 years old when I memorized that declamation and now I’m 23. It’s been 10 long years but still I remember it. And now, I got the point!

Based on Philippine history, Filipinos fought the invaders just to be free from oppression. Sweat and even blood they’ve sacrifice just to get our liberty and stand our National flag in our own country. They even called HEROES of the Philippines.

But look at today! Filipinos are still struggling, crawling for peace and true liberty. Our own government is controlling poor Filipinos like many of us. Instead of making law for the welfare of the mass, they are forcing to make bills for their own profit. Are they, what we call PUBLIC SERVANTS? They’re having treaty with other country beyond the knowledge of the demos. The fact they’re making this is to blind the mass of their greedy deal or shall we say underground economy.

What happened to our country?

My dear fellow countrymen, is this the fruits of our late heroes’ sacrifices? The poor become poorest and rich become richest? Why is that our own government trying to let us down? Is this what we call FREEDOM?

I personally don’t know how to defend the so-called freedom. Many rallies had finished against the government but seems the President is blindfolded of hardships many poor Filipinos experiencing today.

Famine kills many fellow countrymen. Price of basic needs get higher and higher. How could we find justification when salaries remain the same?

How sad and embarrassed to say that rich people are joyful enough to eat what they want, buy what they like, do everything they love anytime while many of us are dying of starvation. Where’s the JUSTICE?

It’s hard for me to write this online but this is the best way I know to tell the whole world that Filipinos never been freed from oppressors ever since. And it becomes harder now because government of our country invaded their fellow countrymen.

Can anyone help oppress Filipinos?
