How to Make Money as a Minor

Different ways that teenagers can make a few bucks.

Are you a kid who really wants to make some cash. You are not alone. It’s normal for you to want to make money so you can buy that dress you wanted or the video game you couldn’t live without. I for instance am working towards a new MacBook Pro. It won’t be easy, but it doesn’t need to be insanely difficult either.

The first method that teenagers can use to make money is the “odd job” strategy. This is by far the simplest to begin but it can involve hard work. The odd job strategy requires you to go from door and asking if you can be hired to do some odd jobs. This can be anything from going grocery shopping to mowing the lawn to washing their car. This is not the most effective way to make money and generally isn’t a good way to make larger sums of money but is great for a couple extra bucks

The second method is the most obvious… get a job. Companies are hiring at younger and younger ages. My sources tell me that you can get a job at McDonald’s at age 13. The best jobs for a teenager are at a grocery store, a movie theater, a fast food restaurant (In & Out pays well and hires from within), or at a coffee shop. Because of being inexperienced it is important to have a good resume (read several “how to make a resume” articles and do the things that consistently appear in theme), and not to expect more than minimum wage.

Method three is really just an extension of the first two. Method three is to create a job for yourself. This could be a lawn mowing service, a car washing service, a babysitting service, a grocery shopping service, a snow shoveling service or even a painting service. The benefit of this is you get to choose your hours and wages. The problem is that if your wages are to high, no one will hire you and you need people to like you so you can make any money at all, as opposed to working at you neighborhood grocery store where you have quite a bit of job security.

I hope this helps and remember that money isn’t going to fall from the sky, these are just ways to help you get started on your path to entrepreneurship. Happy earning
