If We Lived Forever Would The World be any Different

The truth is that if we could live forever we would not, a contradiction, possibly.  The problem is the planet we live on could not cope with the numbers so, there would be famine, lack of water and many other deprivations including disease due to overcrowding.  Illnesses and lack of food etc., would stop child production so if we did not die, we would certainly live in hell on earth.  The space we occupied would be the only space we knew, we would be too weak to move, there would be no other life such as animals, insects and birds as we would probably have eaten them and taken their space.

To make the earth habitable and provide some semblance of  pleasure our first invention would have been death; we would have to have invented a way to reduce our numbers.  We would also have had to prevent new births, other races trying to invade our space, maintain racial purity, pioneer animal husbandry and try to make the best of the limited resources the planet earth provided including living beneath the sea and making the best use of the space beneath our feet and above our heads.  God and Skyscrapers may have been one of our earliest inventions as would law and order and the death penalty even for the most trivial of crimes.

We may have invented breeding to breed out the longevity gene and make death a more natural process  rather than using the law or arbitrarily  murdering people because we do not appreciate the way they look, skin colour or thoughts.

War may have been our second creation, not only to protect our sovereignty over the land and resources we occupied but, it would help reduce numbers.  As can be seen from human history war not only protected our resources it also created innovation, we would have invented better means to reduce our neighbours numbers and increase the availability of resources.

Humans hate change so death would have to be a means of moving the race forward, our accumulated knowledge would have to be passed on to new generations in the form of education.  They would then ask the what if question and develop the fridge/freezer, TV, McDonald’s and America has got Talent as well as better ways of waging war.

As time past, perhaps the human race would have realised that death was the mother of invention.  If we were designed to live forever perhaps rather than devise ways to keep our numbers down we would have invented peace,  The realization that the only way we could survive ourselves,  was to use our accumulated knowledge.  We could then try to make the best of our limited resources, find uses for the resources we did not understand and find a way off the planet so that we could plunder other planets and fulfil our destiny of living forever.

If we follow the course of human history it would appear little different from what it is today, whether we lived forever or not.  Perhaps we are moving nearer a consensus that they only way for humans to survive is to find a way of the planet Earth.

If heaven is a reality and we live forever, once life on Earth has come to an end, perhaps Hell might be the more attractive place.
