Illegal or Not
There is a difference between sharing and stealing. If somebody makes a profit from your work without your permission, I consider that as illegal and stealing.
Before there was a such thing as a DVD or a CD, you were able to record your favorite songs from a radio station. Recording songs and radio is free to listen to in your home or car.
Then the VCR and VHS movies came into the market. You could buy a blank VHS tape and record all of your favorite movies from television. You could also buy and rent your favorite movies. People started recording them and making copies. They began to sell them. It became against the law. The people in Hollywood started loosing money. People go to the movies and record with movie cameras from the theater.
Then the internet came along, and everybody started uploading their music and movies to the internet. Then came programs like Napster and Kazaa. You could upload and download all that you wanted to. Now, there is YouTube. People put their copies of music and movies online as if they own it, and don’t on a thing. They are just sharing what somebody else has made. They don’t own the rights to the movies or music.
So, what do you think. Is it illegal or not. I say that it is not illegal. Nobody seems to be doing anything about it. Look at all the software programs and opportunities that are offered to do these things. If it is so illegal, it should be against the law to make the software. You can also screen capture.
Owning Rights
The internet and the computer has outdone my television set. It seems to be free to watch whatever you want to all over the world. You have a variety of radio stations to listen to, and regular radio seems to be going away. You can chat, write, sell, and buy on the internet as long as you have a computer. You can record your music and movies. It’s nice that the internet and computer has came into the world. You may do many things. I don’t have a problem with sharing, and I don’t considered some things as stealing, but when you create something it is then yours. You own the rights to it. If somebody takes it without your permission, I considered that as stealing. When they make a profit from it and you don’t, that is not right. I think it is okay to share but not steal. There is a difference.
When it comes to Hollywood, things seem the same to me. We have always shared the entertainment of the world. People made the movies, and they were shared in theaters and television. We bought them or recorded them. People made the music, and they were shared on radio. We bought them or recorded them. We shared them in our homes with family and friends at parties and clubs. To me, it is no different now on the internet. We buy and share and upload and download. There is just one thing to remember, the people still own the rights to their work. If you sell their work without their permission, I think that is illegal.
