Immigration…are We Not Just One Large Country?
Did we not all hail from elswhere.
Immigration, has been and still is one of the most controversial topics of post-war Britain.
Putting “Immigrant scroungers” as they are so called on the backburner
for a moment (which will be addressed later) I see us all, and I mean us all as universalists.
If you dont believe me just ask your ain folk “where did your Grandparents hail from “?
and I would wager my mortgage (if I had one, another gripe dont get me started) that they would reply with the name of a country other than the one you were born in.
In my case my fathers side of the family can be traced back to Ireland then before that scandinavia and eons before that Italy, as with my mothers the trail leads also to Ireland and beyond that…Im not too sure yet (give me a chance… tracing my fathers side took time) the fountain of family knowledge who is: Aunty Ellen will recieve another quizzing from me on my mothers side of the family.Sorry Aunty Ellen.
So I suppose I should begin with our country be it :Scotland, Auld alba, or expanding a little further :United kindom, or its aged name Great Britain, though its been a while since it had that particular moniker and incidentally the “Great” in Great Britain actually refered to its “greatness in size(Empire) and not its overall worthiness, well when you include: concentration camps,(South Africa) slavery,(Carribean) and genocide (Sudan) in the list of Blighty’s attributes the word “Great” would have to refer to the former.
The civillians of these few countries that I have mentioned (though there are many more)
were more than tolerant with our countries behaviour, should we not have at least a modicum of compassion and welcome anyone be they down on their luck or not.
For me it comes down to the fundamental point of “putting myself in their shoes” oh so its fine and dandy for us Brits to begin a new life in Australlia, America, New Zealand etc but (stated in a BNPesque tone)”someone with a differing skin colour from our own, coming to our land and taking us jobs” OH PLEASE ! Do Nick Griffin and his entourage actually realise that they are made up of at least 13% of black genes, as are all of us: Brits, Scots, Welsh, Irish,European,American or whetever we want to call ourselves.
Immigration has been occuring since time in memorial, its what makes us whet we are, be it: black, brown, white, or dare I say it in a non-offensive manner yellow.
It is a fact that the first (coloured) humans migrated from Africa 100,000 years ago and as they spread to colder climates their skin colour gradually paled to what we now call “white”
When looking at the “big picture” I dont think I would be wrong in stating that we are generally a race of nomads. If Africans (our ancestors) had decided to reside where they were born, then worldwide there would be no differing colours, no cultures,no national dishes, no national dress,no World cup!
.
Of course I realise that every country has to have an Immigration policy and for me this is wherein the problem lies.
I can see no argument for someone coming to the U.K. who has a skill to offer the country and enhancing the British culture i.e. Kennedy’s “ask not what your country can do for you” etc, or on the other hand, downtrodden peoples from countries who have a dictator as their figurehead i.e Burma, Zimbabwe ,North Korea.People from such countries should not just be welcomed by us, but all of Europe and be given the chance to recieve a helping hand to better themselves thus in the long term becoming more learned and boosting the economy.
What I do not concur with is large benefit handouts which we the taxpayer have to shell out for, i.e the case of a family from Somalia who kicked back in a £1600 per week westminster house with six bedrooms with wooden flooring and flat screen tvs thrown in.
For me it is this current governments Immigration policy that is wrong and not the receiver of the benefits, would we say no to such a deal when migrating to a new country ?
Immigration will always be a controversial topic as long as those who have the power to change the current state of affairs, drag their heels.
Get your finger out! That is what you are being paid for expenses and all!

We should all share this point of view.
