Is Abortion Murder?
Should abortion be considered murder? Does life begin at conception, or at birth? Is giving a baby up for adoption really more compassionate than abortion?
One of the most debated issues today is the issue of abortion. “Pro-Life” groups insist that abortion is murder and that ending a pregnancy is almost always wrong. “Pro-Choice” supporters, on the other hand, claim that life starts at birth, and that abortion is a women’s rights issue. Both sides make some valid points, but which side is right?
Pro-Lifers insist that life begins at conception and that since a fetus has the potential to become a baby, abortion amounts to infanticide. They think that abortion is a sin, and that if a woman can’t take care of her unwanted child, that she should put it up for adoption.
Pro-Choicers feel that it should be a woman’s choice to get an abortion if she ends up with an unwanted pregnancy. They claim that life begins at birth and that no woman should be forced to give birth to a child that she doesn’t want or can’t support.
The Pro-Life argument that the fetus has the potential to become a baby, so abortion is murder, doesn’t make much sense when you think about it. If this were the case, then every month that a woman doesn’t get pregnant and has her menstrual period, she is also committing murder. That egg that never got fertilized had the potential to become a baby. By not allowing it to be fertilized, she has denied that potential child it’s right to be born.
The suggestion to just give birth to the baby and put it up for adoption also doesn’t solve any problems. By giving birth, you are contributing to over population. The more people you bring into this world, the less resources are available for everyone else. Our planet already cannot sustain the current population. Also, there are plenty of orphaned children in third world countries. It would be better if couples looking to adopt adopted those children. Bringing unwanted children into this world is nothing short of irresponsible.
Legally, life begins at birth, when the baby takes it’s first breath. While in the womb, a fetus is simply part of the mother. It has no concept of the world outside of the womb, and has no consciousness. Some could argue that a fetus could have it’s own consciousness during the last trimester, but it cannot possibly have any sort of consciousness during early pregnancy, when most abortions are performed. Even when it starts to develop hair, teeth, etc, it is still not an actual human. There are rare types of tumors, such as fetiform teranoma, that also contain hair, teeth, etc. Perhaps we should also consider these to be humans, rather than tumors, and the removal of such to be murder.
Abortion is not murder. However, it should only be used as a last resort, as there are still health risks to the woman. No one should have to go through an unwanted pregnancy, but it is much better to take precautions to prevent pregnancy in the first place. With all of the birth control methods available today, there is no excuse to have an unwanted pregnancy.

The problem is that even the pro birth league are favor of pro choice. They just want to decide who has the choice. Otherwise they would stop making exceptions. Most pro birth people will tell you that a mother has no right to abort her “baby” unless she has been raped, or in cases of incest, or if her life is in danger. Which of these senerios makes a baby any less a baby?

I am FOR life.
I absolutely believe that life begins at conception.
I do not understand how anyone could think differently – that is a life.
When I miscarried at 8 weeks of pregnancy I can tell you that I felt the loss of a baby. I still wonder today what that child would have been like and who he or she would have become.
A good article brings on discussion and debate.
