Is Globalization Fair Essay
Essay about the fairness of globalizatom.
In this essay I am going to tell why I think Globalization is not fair for farmers of developing countries. And how I feel that they are being miss treated by developed countries, and why I think this should stop. Based on a few Internet sites that I have browsed through.
First off one reason I think it is unfair is because the developed countries trap the people that work on the farms in the system they have implemented into their trading systems. For example they play off other countries farmers. And they ignore their own local farmers. What they do is that the companies buy there foods from many farms across the world for cheap labour. But sometimes they force these farmers to sign contracts that insure that they can only buy or use a certain fertilizer or grow a certain crop on their farm. Some of these fertilizers they sell them selves greatly making it harder for the farmer to keep some of the few bits of money they earn. Allowing for the company to make a profit especially sense the amount of money they pay them for there food, is usually far cheaper than what they sell the food for. And the farmers end up only getting a small percentage of what they work so hard for. So I believe it is unfair to those who are farmers in developing countries and farmers who are local farmers and do not work for companies.
In some factories in the world that produce toys and other items. The employees are not treated well by the companies that they work for. These countries usually do not follow the rules set by their own countries, on how labour should be done to keep the employees safe. Not only do these workers work in a very dangerous places that most of the time ignore all safety rules and are usually incredibly hot, and this makes it hard to breath. But they are also paid ridiculously low wages for their work. And because of these wages they are in a way forced to work many hours of overtime to earn enough to live or support their family’s. Because of this many of the workers sleep at the factories that they are working in overnight because they work there for so long that there is no point in going back home. Even though these companies are only allowed by regulation to let their employees work so many over time hours in a month. Sometimes these companies are caught by the media, when this happens they try to play the good guy and act as if they are shocked. So they tell the media that they are going to take action against this kind of employee abuse. So they will usually send in someone to check on the factories. The only thing is though is that they tell the factory when they are sending an inspector to go and examine the factory. This allows the factory to make themselves look good on the day the inspector comes. This allows the companies to look good in the media and say that they are making improvements upon the working conditions of their factories. Now lets say that a worker gets fed up with the way they are being forced to work and they decide to try and tell someone whats going on. Now the company would just go and fire the worker. They are in a way trapped into a job like this because if they quit they may not be able to get another job. This is the kind of thing that companies in developed countries will establish in other developing with no labour laws dictating them.
Now globalization isn’t just effecting countries way off across the sea. They are also effecting us right here in are very own country. How does this effect us you may ask? Well globalization is effecting our own country in ways that it is making it harder for people such as farmers to make a living. It is also getting rid of many of our own farmers because they can not compete with the cheap prices that farmers in other countries can provide. Because of this many farmers go out of business. Killing off one of the jobs that use to be done by people in the community. Also because of how cheap labour is in other countries they are no longer building as many factories in our own country. Also now in some areas of bigger cities they are outsourcing everything like those people who take your order in the drive through or someone who provides service for something you own. Many of these people live in places were labour is so much cheaper than the minimum wage is throughout the entire developed country.
This is why I don’t think globalization isn’t fair. Because it dosen’t allow for growth of developing countries, and makes those people work in very poor working conditions that they should not have to bear through. And also because it is effecting us and taking the jobs that we used to have away from ourselves slowly slimming down the available jobs we actually have a chance at getting. These are my thought on globalization.
