Is Massachusetts a Republican State
An article that talks about a democratic state voting republican.
Massachusetts, what do you think is going through the minds of the Democrats. How could anyone see this coming. Did the loss of Senator Edward Kennedy cause a Republican to slip into the golden seats. The seat, that changed the balance of power in the U.S. Senate. For many years, Senator Edward Kennedy was a driving force for Massachusetts. A member of the most prestigious family in the United States, a fighting force for healthcare. A die hard Democrat whose Kennedy name alone, means a confirmed nomination. How was it possible to be replaced by Scott Brown, a Republican.
This change has a lot of people still in shock, it was noticeable at President Obamas recent visit to the Democratic Party. His message was clear and concise telling the party to not let this transfer of power cause a lack of focus on executing the agenda.
So what happened in Massachusetts. Well anyone who has been following the state, surely would of noticed that this Kennedy State had already voted in a republican, in Governor Mitt Romney. A change in the states party leader, should not had been a real shock to Washington. Voting in a Republican had been slowly creeping in, and one begins to wonder could this state be now a Republican state.
So analyze this change, we know individuals register to choose their party affiliation. One can be a Republican, Democrat or an Independent. We also know that voting, is what helps to elect politicians. What we don’t know is the what causes a person to vote.
The overall consensus had been, that a person’s party line affiliation could define how an individual would vote. The majority of Massachusetts voters are Democrats, Kennedy followers. This generation taught their kids, and grandchildren to be die hard Democrats. Voting the party line first then the issues. It seems that the voting patterns of the Democrats may have changed to possibly voting issues first then party line.
The Democratic party wants to tax the wealthy and they consider the Republicans wealthy. The new generation of voters today working in Boston probably have a high paying job. The tax issues presented today could be an issue for them. They may fall in the the wealthy category or working towards reaching that goal. They may see the impact on their personal financial statement, and may vote Republican. Voting because of the issues, not their affiliate party.
Democrats feel that having programs for the needy is extremely important. This new generation, believes individuals have control of their lives, and consider themselves savvy investors. They surf the web and are knowledge gatherers. Programs like welfare and improving health-care may not be a top priority for them. For instance consider the introduction of the Internet. Individuals now have access to more tools to educate themselves find jobs and increase their income. Welfare programs were established to do the same providing a temporary income but has become a primary income to some. Healthcare issues may be considered an issue for individuals who don’t have a job, or are close to retirement, making it a non issue for the new generation now. Republicans believe that they built their wealth and aren’t interested in programs for those with the same opportunities to succeed. This generation of Democrats lived through a first war experience with the 911 attacks. These attacks were also towards the business community. That war experience could be a driving force for the new generation of Democrats to support the Republican views of supporting the War.
A state like Massachusetts could be sending a message to politicians and Washington. The issues are a driving force for change not the party line.

i liked your article yvonne but I think you have republicans all wrong. It isn’t that we don’t care about the poor it is that we know what a shackle around their neck those programs are. Welfare destroys people. It makes them dependent on government instead of themselves. Republicans believe in people above all else they know the government is inefficient at best and corrupt at its worst.
people are begining to wake up that everything promised to them by democrats has to be paid for and usually it is paid for by the people who are voting rather that is in higher taxes, higher utilities, or higher prices the bottom line is people are tired of programs that seem to benefit no one at the expense of everyone.

Republicans and Democrats just have different views, and I think the new generation wants to find a happy medium. Thanks for your comments.
