Is Roommates.com a Scam?
While roommates.com seems like any other regular matching service, there are some very questionable things that they allow.

Most of the users or former users of Roommates have complained about getting scam emails from alleged “contacts” and I’m not talking about some annoying spam email; there were serious criminal attempts on them with people using same old scam techniques.
Scams like Moneyorder scam, Nigerian scam being most often through ab(use) of Roommates.com.
First of all they do not require email verification so you can imagine how easy job scammers have.
If you complain to their supports service they will answer you that they realize the problem and that they are doing everything possible and also that scamers doesn’t reduce number of legitimate users on their site.
But is seems that is not truth as users are reporting that around 90% of received contacts were spam.
90%!
Even if it was 50% it would still be pretty bad.
Some members who upgraded report that there is no answer from a member that they contact.
All together it seems like Roommates is allowing spam and scam through its website.
One user who purchased membership did not get any response from members but what he got was a scam email from a -fake name- asking for some weird money transfers like other people reported.
When he tried to get refund he was unable to do it and so on.
Maybe Roommates.com is not a scam itself but is accomplishing scammers big time.
Be aware!
