Jimmy Carter: Past His Sell-by Date

Carter’s remarks about racism.

I have voted in the Presidential elections since Lyndon Johnson ran for President. During this period of time I have had issues with many of the Presidents that I helped elect and those I voted against. I have always felt free to express my opinions and in the case of Richard Nixon, I actually marched and protested his policies.

I also have found fault with President Obama’s policies on several occasions since his election. Not once did I ever consider myself to be racially motivated when I have disagreed with President Obama. Not once did I ever have any objections to the fact that Mr. Obama is half African American. It has never even entered my mind that I was in disagreement with the President because of his race.

For former President Carter to insinuate that most of the criticisms leveled toward the President by most of the people who made them were based on race is blatantly ridiculous and a horrible insult to those of us who are simply exercising our right to disagree under the Constitution. Has Mr. Carter forgotten about freedom of speech? He insulted many, many people with his apparently senile and unsubstantiated remarks.

It is also my opinion that Jimmy Carter was one of our worst Presidents and under his leadership (?), times were even rougher than they are today. He admonished and shamed the citizenry of our country and made us feel as if we were solely responsible for the woes that had befallen our nation during his presidency. He was dour at best and never gave me one iota of hope for my future. This is the man who now claims that because I disagree with the current President, I am a racist.

Being a double minority (female and Jewish), I resent his comments and considering how broad and insulting they were I would hope that people will ignore him and his lunacy.

Yes, there is racism in this country and yes, many people are motivated by it, but; that does not prove that everyone who complains or disagrees with the President is a racist. Does he suggest that we no longer voice our opinions? Should we simply follow like sheep in order not to be labeled racist? That is not going to happen nor should it ever happen in a country that prides itself on freedom and the right to express oneself.

It’s time for Jimmy Carter to go “quietly into that good night” and stop making pronouncements that label the American people as a group of bigots. It’s time for Jimmy Carter to be relegated to eccentric old man status who speaks without thinking and offers nothing substantial to improve the country. Certainly his remarks will only bait the racists that do exist among us and cause the people who have legitimate complaints to refrain from speaking for fear that they will be branded racist.

I urge everyone to ignore this self-important old fool and to continue speaking up for what they believe in no matter what color or gender the President may be. Race, religion and gender have absolutely nothing to do with the legitimate right to disagree and they should never be a factor when a citizen has a complaint about a President.

Yes, Mr. Obama is the first African American President and therefore he is blazing a new and unexplored trail in the history of the American Presidency. This is a good thing and it is not something that I would ever complain about. There are plenty of other areas of concern that I must and do complain about. His race has never and will never be one of them.

Go back to your peanut farm Mr. Carter, you have gone way past your sell-by date as far as being considered a wise elder is concerned. You are now nothing but an outspoken clown who speaks before he thinks and does more harm than good….almost exactly like you did when you were President.

It’s funny because I like Jimmy Carter. I don’t have to agree with everything he says, but I like him. As far as speaking out against Obama, hell, I have 2 Bi-racial daughters and I’ll shout loud and clear. Let someone cry racist.
