Learning Racism
How the young are influenced by our reactions.
Nobody openly teaches racism yet we are all at some stage in our lives guilty of learning it, be it from parent’s sibling’s extended family or personal experience.
The world evolves at a growing rate every year with more and more people being influenced by different nationalities and ethnic groups, as the global village expands we are expected to instantly adapt and integrate with our new friends.
Unfortunately the nature of man is such that we all are suspicious of that which we know nothing or little about.
Language barriers lead us to be intolerant of others
(Why can’t they speak English?)
Why then can’t we speak Italian/French/polish?
Because something or someone challenges our comfort zone we tend to instantly dislike them regardless of colour or creed, the more barriers between (dress/language/religion) the greater the dislike.
Couple that with personal experiences of family and friends in an anecdotal sense or perhaps a review from your favourite paper that mentions the individuals in a negative way and hey presto you are a racist.
Having said that there are of course those who do preach hate fear and loathing of those who are not their own race but for them to be able to teach you must be first in a position to wish to learn.
We all however do have it within us also to accept and love each and every member of the human race unconditionally but for all of humanity to do that at one and the same time will take quite a few more generations.
