Legalize Marijuana!

Marijuana became illegal as a result of the DuPont corporation wanting to kill the hemp market from India. With the support of its two heavy investors, William Randolph Hearst and Andrew Mellon, the hemp market died and the plastic industry flourished.

The first question is not whether to legalize Marijuana, but rather to ask why is it illegal? The answer is very simple: both William Randolph Hearst and the DuPont corporation back in the 1930s wanted to kill the hemp market from India which was in direct competition with the making of plastic products such as nylon rope. It is no secret that the world and its serfs of nearly 7 billion, bows to the wishes of those in power. It was all about money and nothing more. Andrew Mellon, a major investor of DuPont, was Secretary of Treasury from 1921 to 1932 (sort of like putting the fox in charge of the hen house). Is it really a surprise that DuPont was able to crush the Hemp industry? Hemp was made illegal in 1937 by backdoor politics and some help from the most absurd commentary film titled “Refer Madness” which of course appealed to the religious zealots.

While it is prudent to try and maintain the health of our country it is pointless to attempt prohibition of life styles that appeal to the public. With the advent of prohibition laws on alcohol came a flourishing black market run by organized crime. Who do you think controls the use of marijuana today? However all of this aside, the much larger issue is just how much control should we allow government? With all the heated arguments about getting rid of big government it is nothing but plain old intolerance (bigotry) that insists on a ‘one life style fits all” mind set and therefore should be government regulated. It was that very same intolerance that produced such simple minded laws as Alcohol Prohibition passed in 1920 and eventually repealed in 1933 (due to a momentary clarity of thought in Congress). Most laws of intolerance are pushed from the religious communities such as the Blues Laws. These laws regulate a specific day (Sunday) and time which alcohol cannot be purchased.

What is truly world class stupidity is blind acceptance, by congress, of disinformation regarding marijuana. The major claim is that it is a gateway drug to much more potent and deadly recreational chemicals. There are such gateway drugs, but it is not Cannabis. The gateway drugs are the millions of prescriptive medications know as uppers and downers. The most abused are (1). Opioids which are used to treat pain (2). Depressants for anxiety and (3) Stimulants most often used to treat sleep disorders. Marijuana is a sedative and probably most closely related in effect to Phenobarbital. Somewhere along the historical lines of bad information Marijuana was classed as a hallucinogen: it is not a hallucinogen it is a sedative! The gateway to drug abuse is in medicine cabinets and not in the marijuana fields in Mexico.

When it come down to dangerous drugs the all time winner is alcohol! It is about impossible to OD on THC (the primary chemical in marijuana). No one has ever died of a “joint” overload, but plenty of young people have died from alcohol overdose.

Will marijuana ever be decriminalized? Of course it will, it is simply a matter of time. Even the members of the US congress cannot remain in their stupor of ignorance forever. Many states now have made medicinal use of marijuana legal and California is at the forefront of decriminalization of marijuana for one simple reason: Taxes! Now there is a fun way to get rid of some state and federal debt. It is one tax no one will complain about.
