In 1964, Raphael Mechoulam (a scientist) isolated the THC, the psycothropic mixture of marijuana, responsible for the known sense of euphoria experienced from who’s used to smoke it, but noone was able to understand how THC interacts with human body, until the begin of ’80s. with the discoveries of endocannabinoids that a relation between marijuana and its effects can be demonstrated: thanks to his ability to chemically bind with a series of receptors situated in many of our cells, mostly in the brain. (Receptors CB1 and CB2, for experts).

Endocannabinoids area series of chemical mixtures produced from our own organism, with many functions of primary importance that specularly reproduce the mixtures found in cannabis. This apparent “fortuity” seems to hide the key for an ancient relationship between humans and plants that could bring us to cure many illness and even support the farmaceutical industry.

In Italy there’s a movement that’s trying to promote the legalization of Cannabis (Pazienti Impazienti) as a remedy for many disturbs, like Alzeimher or Arthrosis Symptoms, it is just the beginning, but they are acquiring more and more visibility on the streets. They don’t want to appear on television: they prefer to talk with people about scientific proofs that cannabis is indeed something everyone could need sooner or later.

Recently two men and a woman who were found with plants in their houses were absolved by the court because they demonstrated to use it only for a medical therapy. It may seem a little thing, but it’s indeed a step forward to its legalization.
