Little Known Facts About Abortion

by CHAN LEE PENG in Issues, April 1, 2008

There are several things one should consider before having an abortion.

Every one of us should have an in-depth understanding to learn about numerous threats in regard of the abortion issues that may influence our life either psychologically or physiologically. Not to mention modern people themselves, the professional specialist may have paid less attention to the serious problems arising from the act of abortion.

One should know the painful experiences during the procedure of abortion before she reaches maturity (17 years old or even earlier than that). Parents should explain to their child the harmful effects of abortion in details. This is important to help them to grasp a concept of abortion.

The research conducted by the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the United States has given us profound evidences about the negative impacts of abortion. Their outcomes are as follows:

23% of abortion victim will often live in hallucination.

35% of abortion victim will always have a strange believe that the child who was being taken comes to visit her in her imagination.

54% of abortion victim will have more frequent abortion-related nightmares.

69% of abortion victim will always survive in a crazy and scary world.

73% of abortion victim will always have her mind keeps on recalling the painful moment of abortion that she had gone through.

81% of abortion victim will feel sick thinking of her child who was being taken away.

61% of abortion victim will start and increase the intake of alcoholic drinks.

65% of abortion victim will always prone to commit suicide.

77% of abortion victim will likely to isolate her from communicating with a group of people.

69% of abortion victim will experience less sexual instinct.

81% of abortion victim always likes to close her in a room. She will cry quietly there.

The common abortion consequences include infertility, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, internal bleeding and infection, fatigue, shock and coma, uterine perforation, peritonitis, intense pain, anorexia, poor appetite, loss of body organs, decreased ability to work and a very intense spirit of post-abortion feeling.

In terms of psychological consequences, their symptoms include feelings of guilt, an intense spirit of committing suicide, regret, loss of self-confidence, low self-esteem, hostility, despair, helplessness, loss of sexual instinct, a strong instinct to end up partner and family relationships, a blame of self-wrongdoing and always in a state of terrible dreams.

Abortion increases the risk of deaths among the females. The proportion of deaths among the abortion victims is three times higher than a pregnant mother who delivers the birth in a year. The cases of abortion victims who commit suicide are six times higher than the pregnant women in a year. In a year, the fatal risk on the cause of accidents among the abortion victims is three times higher than a normal person in a year. Within a year, the rate of abortion victims who tend to injure themselves is 13 times higher than pregnant women. The above mention data is derived from a Finland report in 1997. This report is a big success of scientists to study the statistics of abortion victims. The data should give the public awareness towards the negative impacts of abortion.

A study conducted by Minnesota of the United States pointed out those females who engaged with abortion has 10 times higher risk of committing suicide within half a year as compared to those who has never experienced abortion. Another report shows that the more frequent the females undergoing abortion, the risk of suffering from body pain, psychological disorders is always more than 10 times higher or may at an extremely higher state that one may expect. Therefore, the role of parents in alerting their children against abortion is deemed necessary and important so as to save their children from becoming victims of physical and mentality disorder.

Great information Chan. I think too many women decide to have an abortion thinking only of ridding themselves of an unwanted pregnancy. There are obviously many more things to consider first.

Chan, very good points. Abortion should not be considered as a form of birth control, as it involves the taking of one life & the risk of another.

A very controversial topic to write about and one that has many points to consider. I believe we have moved away from ‘abortion as a birth control method’ a long time ago. I have faith that women are making informed decisions and the abortion rate has been declining. Education is the only responsible approach to sex, birth control and abortion.

We have not moved away from abortion as birth control – in the US over 22% of pregnancies end in an abortion… Last year was a high of over 1.2 million…

Another lie the pro-abortion forces use…

Lady, you are attempting to voice personal opinion by disguising as scientific fact, which is both unethical and immoral when you consider that there are readers out there who are facing a highly personal and difficult CHOICE. these readers need legitimately unbiased, factual information… frankly i am disturbed that such an ignoramus as you should be allowed to be a regular contributor to this site.

I am a little disturbed by this article, it is a difficult and highly sensitive subject. Your opening statement gives me great cause for concern as a nurse:
“Never ever attempt to go for abortion as it is a painful and scary experience.”
Please note that professionally performed medical Termination of Pregnancy is not painful, it may possibly be scary but then carrying a foetus that could cause you psychological or physical problems could be equally as scary. Medical support and assistance is out there. I feel you should change this sentence before you cause someone a health problem by scaring them into following your view, and that is what this article is, a view tarted up with medical facts. It is a shame as your name stands out on Triond and you could cause damage with just one sentence,a frightened young woman might end up dead because of the fear gained from your declaration, they would probably not bother reading the rest of the article, the damage would already be done, in turn this could lead to a legal situation for you. I would like to also point out that I held the hand of many women when they made the final descision to abort, not one took the subject lightly, those who were noted to be using it as some form of birth control were transferred to another area of professional help and support. Please rethink this article. I appreciate the freedom of speech but this is not a safe sentence to stand out in the crowd.

Please don’t misunderstand here. I just discourage the females to do so. If as you said, you encourage the females to go for abortion, can you assure that they’ll be safe from any nightmares that they have suffered? I strongly disagree to you, and will think that the abortion is another killing of innocent live.
Please do not confuse the readers with your negative statement: encourage them to go for abortion.

I’m not fighting with you, but I think we should respect the small new life, he or she did no wrong, please don’t serve he or she in such cruel manner!

Please be awared with your works! They’ll be suffered because of your statement!

I am saddened by your threatening response of how my statement will affect my work, I did not come to your article to fight with you, I did not produce a negative statement I merely pointed out a professional medical concern of one sentence. Personal pain and grief through abortion differs from woman to woman. No one can reassure that nightmares or upset won’t follow. I have in no way offered my personal opinion here, I have never said I encourage women to go for an abortion either, I have held hands with those who chose their own path. I have said what others have also stated that this article is a personal view with medical attachments, it might be read wrongly by a distressed person as it was read by another encouraging her to keep her baby, it might also discourage another to save her own life. I respect innocent lives unborn or born. I take your threat of affecting my works personally however as you are considered a leading and powerful writer on Triond, do I take it that ‘please be awared with your works! They’ll be suffered because of your statement! means you are going to trash my writing on Triond over this? I think that is extremely concerning for me Chan Lee Peng

I apologise by the way for using the word tarted up, maybe it would have been better to use, shored up or supported by. ( I have not been asked to apologise this is my own offering)

Chan Lee Peng, abortion is a very personal and heart wrenching decision. Many women have made this decision and wished years later they could take it back. Not all facilities offering abortions provide trained personnel who know how to counsel and provide emotional support for women. In some instances the woman has had permanent damage done to her physically, emotionally and mentally. I am sure that Glynis does not work at such a facility, and more and more of these places are losing their ability to practice. Where Glynis works she states they are selective in who they perform the practice on. Can she guarantee that all such practices are? I am sure your statements are not meant to cause damage or harm to anyone, but to cause pause for thought. Once this procedure is performed, one cannot undo it. If you save one life, you have performed a service.

Would you want a disabled child to carry a fetus to full term and deliver, especially if her disabilities are inherited? It is a very personal issue and there are a million stories out there. I believe that Chan’s article is doing good (a vast good) if it saves a life, and one of Chan’s readers have thanked Chan for doing just that.

    To Glynis Smy,

I don’t feel ashame of writing this article. I’m doing my best to share my research and knowledge with all of you. If one innocent life can be saved, I think that’s a merit.

I pay high respect to your job as a nurse. This issue is very personal and controversial. If the reader thinks she can accept, then she should stop doing it. But if she disagrees with my medical research here, then it’s up to her to take the consequences that she’s going to bear on.

Anyway, I do suggest females not to go for an abortion as my final conclusion.

Attention, females! Think before you leap!!!!

    To Chan Lee Peng
You do not have to feel ashamed of writing this article, as I am not ashamed of anything I have said or done. I merely pointed out the first statement was of concern to me,however I now have another concern that goes further, you have now mentioned ‘consequences that she’s going to bear on’ and previously you mentioned that my work would suffer’Please be awared with your works! They’ll be suffered because of your statement!’ at no time have I made public threats to your work, I have pointed out something of concern as others have done. I bid you good luck with your writing and thank you for the respects you pay me with my ‘previous’ job. I do not disagree with your medical research either, good day to you.

Glynis…Chan has done nothing to deserve “threats to her public work” she is out making a bold and life saving statement backed by facts, so please stop acting like there is a “fair” and “even” field for argument here, abortion is murder and it also destroys most womens lives along with the innocent child involved, the women who have had abortions need love and healing, they do not need their heads filled with “you did the right thing” kind of talk, your past work has caused damage, lives were taken and the ones who survived left with a huge hole in the heart so if you want to defend abortion go somewhere else….sorry to be so blunt but it is as sickening for you to defend this horrid life taking “procedure” as it is for a defense attorney to defend a pedophile knowing he is guilty…..

There are medical reasons for the termnation of pregnancy too, life saving reasons. I left the job as I did not approve of certain other reasons. I am just concerned about the first few words of the article as they are powerful words and Chan has a huge following and is a highly respected writer. I note that janeroe’s comments of Chan being an ignoramous has been overlooked, maybe you could tell her off too, I think I have taken enough of a bashing now.

Chan I apologise for causing you the need to feel ‘threatened’

This is a statement from Glynis Smy:

    To Chan I apologise

I retract my previous comments from this article, I apologise to those of you who are obviously upset by anothers opinion and view. I have not been asked to do this but I feel the article itself will become overlooked and it is a well written and researched article ( I still would like to see a change in the first line but that will not happen I know).
I would appreciate it if any further comments were for Chans’ article and not a continuation of a debate. Thank you.

    To Glynis Smy,

I admire at your sincere apology as not many people could apologize in this manner. I hope all the previous misunderstanding should be cleared out now. By the way, I pay high respect to all your works at Triond. Please feel no worries or discomfort as we’re friends but not enemies. No enemies for me but friends at Triond, as my philosophy of life here.

Good luck for your writings at Triond!

I think that Chan left out one important statistic: 100% of the babies who are aborted die. The only ways to “terminate a pregnancy” are to kill the baby, give birth to him or her, or to suffer a miscarriage.

Pray tell, where are the sources of this? None I assume? The numbers seem incredibly innacurate. I would like better support of this article =]

I had an abortion when I was sixteen. for the week after my abortion I cried and felt sad often, but not because of my decision. I felt this way because of the hurtful things that people say about people who chose to have an abortion. I know that I made the best decision for myself and that is all that matters. These numbers are completely inaccurate and no source is listed. The auther of this article keeps calling these people “abortion victims”. Victim is in no way a term that should be used to depict these women. These women chose to have this procedure. No one strapped them down to a table and forced them into it and if by some chance they were, I am sorry for their misfortune. People need to know the facts about abortion, not lies that the conservative pro-life irrationalist post to scare people into a birthing a child they wish not to raise. This information is very inaccurate. I hope people inquiring abortion look else where.

I wish you all to seriously think before you go for abortion. The feotus is a life that shouldn’t be denied for its existence. It’ll be cruel to damage one LIFE, and it’s no different than a KILLING.

No matter how you scold me damned poor and ridiculuos Chan to against abortion, I still stand firmly to defend my views on abortion. I strongly disagree and discourage females to go for abortion!!! Think that they’re just another HUMAN that can breathe!!!

  29. Athlyn Green

    On August 7, 2009 at 9:26 pm

I find the term pregnancy termination telling. Why not tell it as it really is? Why not say a human termination. I guess that would ruffle too many feathers.

While early term abortions are far less gruesome, abortion in all its butchery is just that. What kind of society makes the tearing of an unborn child limb to limb an acceptable practice?

If you want to champion for abortion, why not champion for unborn children being dismembered, burned, suffocated, and having their brains sucked out? That’s what happens with abortion procedures.

I recently viewed some aborted babies and one baby in particular stood out, a little girl who had soft hair and eye lashes. She was perfect in every way–except that she was dead.

    Good awareness article, Chan.
