Making Responsible Gunholders More Responsible

This is an article that reminds gunholders to be more responsible and value life.

I was prompted to write this article in support of the sentiment of my fellow journalist who was recently gravely threatened by an unknown irresponsible and arrogant gun-holder , ready to take one striving innocent life for simple case of road-rage.

Just recently ABS-CBN news anchor, Sheryl Cosim, was caught in great shock when an unidentified gun- holding person in the busy street of Manila furiously approached them, with family, inside her car and poked a 9 mm pistol ready to fire against anybody who would come out from Cosim’s car. You know what was the cause? A simple road-rage.

Just a couple of hours before I wrote this article, another victim, reported to the police of his experience with the same assilant similar to what had happened to Cosim, showing the nearly healed wound on his left ear as what he got from this gun tooting holder. More surprising, as shown on the pronouncement of the police, the licences issued to Cosim’s assailant were expired already.

I would like to understand that if a citizen would like to enjoy the privilege of holding or possessing a gun, there  is the corresponding undertaking on his part to use it only for self-defense and to inculcate  to himself the value of  responsible gun-holding.. The fact that gun-holders were issued licenses means that they are willing to follow the rules prescribed for such serious privilege because in just a little mistake, it could mean life of anybody  including the holder himself.

Series of incidents involving gun tooting  simply show the need to educate gun-holders. Although I would like to believe that there are more responsible  gun-holders  than crooked ones, however, I suggest, that authorities should be very strict enough in issuing licenses to all applicants. We must bear in mind that  license to carry  firearm does not include the license to threat or worst to kill an innocent person.

Although the primary reason for possessing gun is to defend ones life and property, however, if the possessor turns the aggressor himself, it is better to take from him that privilege since he is a  threat to the society  in general.

An appeal to all gun-holders, it is not enough that you know all the parts of the gun and its capabilities. It is also  equally important to know your duties and obligations being possessor of the same. If they don’t know any, better surrender their firearm and live a gun-less life. If many of the citizens have been living without gun for their personal protection, then why can’t gun-holders do the same?

Life is still more precious than  most expensive brand of a gun!!!

A very well presented article. Its not the guns that are the problem but the people that manage to get hold of them. You are right they should be better educated but they are probably the people that think they have a right to use a gun and wouldn’t under take any training or care that they could seriously hurt or kill someone.

I know plenty of gun holder that use the guns for work (game keepers) or for sport, game shooting and their guns are always locked away and used with respect. Great read thank you.
