Man Exonerated, Freed From Prison After 35 Years

Can you imagine spending 35 years in jail, for a crime you didn’t even commit? How would you feel if you were accused of a crime you didn’t do?Well James Bian got to live to tell the story. This happen in 1974, when James was accused of kidnapping and raping a nine year old boy. The nine year old victim called him out on a line up, and James insisted he was at home watching T.V.

James had tried four times to get DNA testing and they were all rejected until, he went and to look for help. An Innocence Agency helped clear his name and set him free, after 35 years. He was interviewed when he came out of jail, people asked him many questions, one was, are you mad? Mr. Bian just said “no im not angry, iv got god”. James said this as he was interviewed with a shirt on stating, “Not Guilty”. James was asked what is the first thing he wants to do when he leaves prison, and he stated he wants to call his mother. James had not used a cellphone his whole life, and used it the first time ever to call his ill grandmother, 77.

This just goes to show how far we have come in 35 years. We have DNA testing to prove people are innocent or guilty. James Bian is entitled to 1.75 million dollars after Florida passed a law last year stating, for every year an innocent person stays in jail is entitled to 50,000 dollars a year.
