Man to Lead, Woman to Follow?

Man to lead, woman to follow or vice versa? Eyebrows will look down upon the very question. Who leads whom?

Man to lead, woman to follow? This is a tricky question to answer. Different people may have different views and thought on this question. The question aims at equality between male and female. It cannot be blind equality. Nature has endowed man with certain capabilities and capacities which are not found in women. Man also cannot claim some capacities which are not found in women. Thus we speak of manly strength and feminine grace.

Man by his nature is given to hard work involving physical strength and also a great extent, physical endurance. Women, as a rule are denied this physical strength. Therefore, man has been a fighter all along and these fighting qualities have always in demand. Hence, man came to be a hero or a leader. Exploring, pioneering, climbing, fighting and such of these qualities require masculine’s courage, bravery and hardihood. So, society needed male badly. Man became the leader.

But where simply intellectual qualities are called for, it is difficult to choose between a male and a female. Finer arts in fact come in handy with the women. Thus there are woman poets, women artists and so on. Male may compete with female. If man outdoes, it is because of the better chances he gets.

Women as a rule are the best homemakers. Their sense of duty, humility and patience make them really the authority in the house. Their feminine touch has a lot to go in bringing up children. If a country needs good youngsters, it is to the mothers it has to look to. The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.

Male and female are thus complimentary and supplementary to each other and it will be useless to decide who leads whom.

You are right, Chan Lee Peng. Men and women have different capabilities and capacities. I think they compliment each other. When they work together they complete the whole.

Chan, this is a beautiful article. Rather than trying to determine who leads we need to determine how we lead (together) blending all of our skills and intellect, as you said complementing one another.

Neurological studies reveal that, men have approximately 6.5 times the amount of gray matter related to general intelligence than women, and women have nearly 10 times the amount of white matter related to intelligence than men. Gray matter represents information processing centers in the brain, and white matter represents the networking of – or connections between – these processing centers. The general intelligence factor called the g-factor in males surpass females by an average of 3.6 IQ points. Men tend to do better with tasks requiring more localized processing, such as mathematics, while women are better at integrating and assimilating information from distributed gray-matter regions of the brain, which aids language skills.Scientifically we can conclude that Men have more Intellegence Quotient than Women; and parallely Women have more memory power than in Men.

Psychologically Men are aggressive and Women are emotional. Aggressiveness may sometimes result in sin. Thus it needs emotions like love and affection to neutralize. Since Men are less emotional and more aggressive, they need to be loved by women so that they cannot commit sin. On the other hand since Women are more and easily prone towards evil passions, they need to be under the protection of Men.

Intellegence alone cannot solve the purpose of achievement. Intellengence is complete only when the memory power is added to it. Man can excel in tasks more efficiently than a woman. He is a quick decision maker, and is physically stronger than a woman. Men tend to take even a deadly risk to solve a problem, Women tend to solve problems with no risks. Men take individual ideas and Women take collective ideas. Men have deviced traditions, cutoms, religious epics etc. This is the reason why the world is patriachal.

Women have more verbal skills than in Men. Men draw love and comfort from women and Women expects protection assurance from Man. Men are egoistic, Women are posessive. Men can achieve one task at a time, but women can achieve many tasks at a time. Men can conceal even a deadly secret for a life time, Women cannot conceal even a small secret for a short time. Men ignore small matters, Women insist on them. Men have more sense of humour than in Women. Men admire beauty, coy, traditionality, submissiveness and domestic contentment in Women, while Women admire courage, intelligence, responsibility, sincerity, loyalty and sense of humour in Men. Men are good bread earners, Women are good homemakers. Hence men and women think differently to achieve equal level of knowledge.

These counterparts sustains the harmony of the human relationship between Man and Woman. There is a popular english saying that \’Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus\’. Hence we can say that neither Men are superior to Women, nor Women are inferior to Men.

First and foremost the person who is good at a task should be put in charge of that task. But the line isn’t always so clear cut. Therefore there should be a default leader. Let’s look at another factor of Leader/Follower… servant and served. You might assume that with leadership comes priviledge, but to be fair this must NOT be so. A leader should be the servant. We elected our president to serve us. His job is to make our lives better. But he is still out leader. We do what he tells us to do, but he does it to benefit us. This is the way leadership should work.

Women expect to be served. They expect special treatment. They expect to be asked out on a date. They expect the man to drive. They expect men to pay. They expect for the man to take off his coat and put it on her if she is cold. Women can choose to have a career, but a man can not. He MUST have a career. Men are expected to sacrifice everything, even his life, for a woman.

These are generalizations of course but as a whole they are absolutely true! Women do want to feel special, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. There isn’t anything wrong with it. It creates equality! Women get taken care of, so men should get to lead.

Consider the idea that the leader gets special treatment. What does the other person receive then? NOTHING! That person is a slave! So it is for this reason that husbands of bossy women feel oppressed. They ARE! They are made into slaves. Again, the woman WILL be treated special. Yes she will also make her husband feel special… over other men, but not over herself. She will always come first, and she should. And her husband should get to lead.

I like your conclusion Chan. Man and woman do need one another.
