Medical Marijuana: Pros, Cons and Information
What’s the deal with marijuana, how does it affect us, and how can it influence the future of our society.
Medical Marijuana Today
Medical marijuana is a common controversy in today’s medical society. Currently the community is divided on the issue. Questions are constantly being thrown around such as “How does it affect the body?” and “What good does it do for a person?” Researchers have tried to answer these questions with studies and they have shown how positive medical marijuana can be. If something can benefit an individual why not use it for the sick in an attempt to find a better drug for those who really need it. Medical use of marijuana should be legal all across the United States because of all the good it can do for a persons overall health and the fact that everyone deserves all possible methods of treatment when they are ill.
Marijuana is a plant that has many good properties and grows in a hot tropic environment (Adams Pro). Marijuana has been used as a medical remedy for thousands of years all across the planet (Adams Pro). In past Asian and African civilizations it was used for a pain reliever during child birth as it was just about the only resource available to help in that type of situation (Adams Pro). In India people would use it when very stressed and out about their lives or a situation (Adams Pro). The Chinese found a way to brew it into tea that would be drunk for all kind of problems that were related to pain and suffering (Adams Pro). Even in the nineteenth century doctors would prescribe marijuana and it would be accepted and taken without any question (Grinspoon). When present day marijuana was made available in America was it was abused and not treated as a medical drug for the problems it could really help (Grinspoon). Because of this, marijuana has gathered quite an extensive reputation for being a substance that not only is bad for the bodies but is addictive (Ginspoon). The most common way these people abused the drug was by the method of smoking it, or burning the plant and inhaling the fumes (Ginspoon). This makes it really hard see it as alright in the current nonsmoking environment but people just need to see that it can be good for you and as a medical drug would not be taken by the method of smoking (Grinspoon). Many people believe that it should stay illegal all over the country just like other drugs such as heroin or PCP (Adams Medical). However; Doctors are constantly releasing studies that balance the positive and negative effects of it on the human body (Adams Medical). The American Medical Association, or the AMA, still calls for further and more in depth study of the drug before they will be ready to state their public opinion (Bibby). It is just a matter of time and effort before the public will see that the past history of medical marijuana shows something very important about the drug. Something is not used again and again over thousands of years if it does not work well for the human race.
