Modern Society’s Problem
This is something I wrote way back when during my Sophomore year of high school. Came across it the other day and was amazed by how little my mind has changed.
I sit with a burdened heart. For no particular reason other than the hopeless humanity I am a part of. Simple to describe this world we inhabit, as brutal as it can be. It is a damned world, somehow forgotten to care for by the greed and selfishness of our leaders and role models. We sit in awe of actors, singers, and corrupted political leaders while the great men of time are forgotten. We have forgotten about the acts of Jesus ‘Christ’, whom I use not because I believe the religion that he once spread, but because, regardless of whether his spritual beliefs were right or wrong, he cared for every person. We forget about ‘Buddha,’ whose kindness led him to finding an almost-civilised way for mankind to live; but even these beliefs spread by such intelligient, kind-hearted men were corrupted. Wars fought in the name of a God no one can for certain say exists. Lives lost to bullets and blades for possibly false beliefs. No one stops to think “Perhaps this man is our true savior, someone who can unite us and bind us together as brothers, eternally.” They simply plunge a dagger into their hearts, or drive a bullet into their brains, having no time for remorse at the lives they unwittingly took. People kill people. And until that stops, expect damnation. If not by the hands of any god which you believe in, but by the hands of men. In short, by you.
